Not quite the "Old School" Hoppe's Patches I Remember, yet They Get the Job Done at a Fair Price.
I've been a Hoppe's fan for decades, and I recently purchased one of their cleaning kits at a good price, and am pleased with it except for the patches. I immediately noticed that those patches are not the same quality construction as the those I used to buy. (So, after that experience, why did he buy more patches? Some folks just don't learn on the first or second tries, I guess.) First, a relatively sparse number of patches was contained in the cleaning kit I purchased. Second, having moved within the past year, I didn't feel like going through additional boxes of "stuff" in an effort to locate some older patches I have on hand, somewhere. Third, I wanted to see if the patches Hoppe's sells "at large" were better quality that those which came in the kit. I am happy to report that these patches do appear to be a superior quality to those housed in the cleaning kit. And while these are acceptable in every way, they unfortunately do not equal the Hoppe's patches I remember and to which I refer as "old school." Somewhere along the line Hoppe's evidently "thinned down" their patches of yesteryear. Either that or my aging brain simply remembers the old ones being thicker and more absorbent (?). (Heck, maybe I'm confusing patches with bandages.) For all I know, these patches are the norm for the current generation of sportspersons who may have never used any contained within the iconic dark green metal gun cleaning kits once offered by Hoppe's. If I ever do finish unpacking, I'll come across some of those older patches. Only then will I be able to compare them, "apples to apples." If this happens in a relatively brief period of time, I will update this review. In the meantime, the patches offered here are completely acceptable and are offered at a fair market price.

Knife and Electronic Cleaning Lifehack
It sounds like this product was better in the past but it has been perfect for me cleaning knives and electronics. I used to use paper towels and microfiber cloths to clean things before totally shifting to these 2” squares. I had smaller squares before but find 2” are the perfect size to clean a knife blade and wipe down handheld electronics like controllers and game consoles. I dip these pads into a Menda bottle filled with 99% alcohol to clean most things. They do fray a bit on the side but hold up extremely well when you need to do dirtier tasks like cleaning a controller cable. I’ve never had a square tear on me in months of using them. Lastly, it’s convenient and saves me from wasting full sized paper towels. Sure you could cut them up but who has time for that and these still perform way better. I keep them in little square boxes and was shocked I had used up almost half a bag this year. This is easily one of the best cleaning lifehack purchases you can make if your working on smaller items. Wish I had found out about this sooner.

Buy
Consistent size and thickness, and they clean well without leaving lint behind. Work great for .38 to .45 calibers. Only downside is a few patches were slightly frayed, but overall a reliable value for the price

My Go To Patches
I have always used Hoppes cleaning patches even though i use different cleaning materials. They do not fray and they leave no lint like some of the other brands. Sturdy and a bit thin,But more than adequate for running through the barrel. The only brand i use. The other were either to thick, or left way too much lint behind. Could they be thicker? Sure, but you can double up on them if need be. A bag will usually last me over a year depending on how much range time i clock in. Well worth the piece. Their consistency and thickness remids me laundry dryer sheets. ***** Update***** made a 2nd order and received the all cotton ones. These I do not recommend. Lint is an issue and it sucks up oil and cleaners. Too much bother to send them back but I wish they would’ve stayed all cotton. The poly material is superior. Doesn’t absorb oils and cleaners as fast, so more of it goes on your weapon. So now I have 3 packs that I will use even though they aren’t that great. Just make sure you read the fine print. Stay away from the all cotton ones.

My go-to cleaning patch
These work well for my purposes. I shoot often and enjoy sitting down and giving my firearms a thorough cleaning and lubing afterwards. I use these for everything from swabbing the bore and cleaning out all the nooks and crannies with them wrapped around a pick, to wiping down all the metal with oil afterward the cleaning is done. They hold up fairly well to abuse and my only gripe is that sometimes threads will come loose from the edges, but it doesn't happen often enough to be any kind of deal-breaker. I use quite a bit during each cleaning and usually hit the range once or twice a week so I go through quite a lot but a single pack still lasts for quite a while. Even if you go "patch happy" like me and use about 10 patches per cleaning, that still averages out to about 50 sessions per package.
