Worth it for hassle-free access
I installed the Schlage Encode Smart WiFi Deadbolt on my front door and it’s been one of the best “quality of life” upgrades I’ve made. The hardware feels solid and secure (typical Schlage), and the aged bronze finish looks great and hasn’t shown fingerprints the way shinier finishes do. Setup was straightforward: the app walked me through pairing to Wi-Fi and calibrating the bolt, and I had it working within minutes. The biggest win is keyless entry—no more hiding spare keys or worrying about lockouts. The touchscreen is responsive, and I love being able to create and delete access codes from my phone. It’s perfect for guests and deliveries, and if you host on Airbnb, being able to make time-based codes is a game changer. Smart home integration has been reliable for me. I use it with Alexa/Google for lock status checks and routines, and the auto-lock feature gives me peace of mind when someone forgets to lock up. Notifications have been accurate, and I like being able to see when a specific code was used.

Great Upgrade for my home
The smart model’s keyless entry is a total game-changer—just punch in a code or use the app, and you’re in. No more juggling groceries while digging for keys! The app is super easy to use, letting you change codes, unlock remotely, and check activity in seconds. I do wish the batteries lasted a bit longer, but the battery-level indicator is a lifesaver—it warns you well in advance, so I’ve never been locked out like I was with my old lock. Honestly, I’d recommend this lock to anyone. It’s better than anything I’ve found in local stores, and installation is a breeze thanks to the QR code instructions.

Works really well, even if it's expensive
I've had this lock for over a year now. It was expensive and I told my wife we really didn't need it. But she insisted, saying it was easier for the kids and it had a lot of useful features. Well, I hate to admit it, but she was right. Although this unit was expensive, we trusted the Schlage brand. We have a lot of other locks in the house made by schlage. It's high quality and durable. As long as we've owned this lock, I have not had any wifi drop or disconnects. There has been zero issues with codes not working. Even my app on my phone has worked 100% of the time. I wish my other wifi-enabled appliance devices worked this good. The feature I like the most is being able to set temporary codes. On my old lock, I had extra keys made for both my parents, both my in-laws, one each for my kids, one for each of my car keys, a couple extras I can give the neighbors in case I went on vacation, and so on. There were so many keys floating around I couldn't even keep track of who still had keys to my house. With this lock, If I'm out on vacation, I can set a temporary door code for my neighbors to help grab mail and packages. If I'm not home and my family or friends need to pick something up, I can give them a temporary code to get into my house. I can delete it manually or set it up to expire from the app. It's easy and takes less only a few seconds to do. I never have to worry about getting my keys back or someone losing them. It also notifies me immediately when someone uses a key code. Since I've had this lock, I haven't had to worry about my kids losing keys or being locked out. We paired this up with Alexa and a Ring camera so I can even remotely unlock if the kids get locked out. Now we only have a few codes for ourselves and the kids. If our parents need to get in, they can call and we let them in. No more keys floating around.

Total Trash
Got the lock and installed it. The directions are straight forward. Locked worked great the first day. Some things to note. • The hole where the bolt goes into the door was too small for this lock, so I had to make it a little bigger even though I had just removed another Schlage lock from the hole. • The screw holes on the striker plate for the frame side of the door did not line up with existing holes. They send you two plats but neither worked so I had to leave my old plate there. Couldn't drill new holes because the old ones were too close. • During installation of the lock itself you put the number pad in place from the outside and then attach a plate to the number pad from the inside. Don't over tighten the screws on the plate. Tighten them just enough to keep the key pad from moving around. If you over tighten you will find the screws to attach the inside part of the lock are too short. Now for the problem I really have. On day two my app, I am using the Schlage app, says I have no locks. I can unlock and lock the door by hand and I get notices on my phone, but I cannot use the app to lock or unlock the door or add new pass codes. Good thing I wasn't depending on the phone app to let anyone in the house. At this point I will never be able to rely on the lock for that issue. I attempted to reconnect the phone app to the lock, but the lock just flashes a red light and beeps. Right now, I honestly would not recommend this lock to anyone who will ever rely on using the phone app to open the door. If you just want a push button deadbolt then it appears to work for that. In my opinion having that luxury is certainly not worth $250. Little more information on steps I took to rectify this problem. Other than calling the Schlage folks for help. Oh, I did that too, but they will only help you during their business hours and that happens to be when I am at work myself. Also, don’t try their website troubleshooting because that just runs you in circles. • Deleted and reinstalled the app. Could not connect. • While following the directions on the app I randomly pushed the button on the inside of the battery pack. The phone actually paired with the lock but the lock would not connect to my WiFi so I could not proceed. • Factory reset the lock and repeated the steps of connecting including pushing the button on the battery compartment. Connected to the phone but no Wifi. • Removed and replaced the battery and reset the lock. Still no Wifi. • Provided my user information to my son who downloaded the app on his Android. He followed the directions on his app and everything worked great. Even though the app shows I have no lock paired with my phone I still get messages when someone locks and unlocks the door. Strange things. Since the lock and app are completely unreliable I will be sending it back. Oh, and why does the app need to have access to my location? That in not information that is relevant to me operating a lock. ****Update**** The lock magically reappeared in the app after being gone for two days. I guess they updated the app to fix the WiFi problem. I will continue to use the lock and app up to the point where I am out of time to return the lock. At that point if everything is still working I will come back and update my rating. For now I’m keeping it at 1 star. ****Update II**** I have been using the lock since it started working again. I have not had issues since. My wife actually purchased a second one and we now have on on the front and back door. They both have worked mostly flawlessly since the app was updated. ****Update III**** This thing is the biggest piece of crap. I have had this lock installed for about 8 months now. I have the issues listed above. The lock sucks down batteries is constantly losing connection with my family's phones and now it has completely stopped working. Oh and be ready to reset the lock and reconnect it EVERY time you have to change batteries. Update: lock died after 5 yrs. If you have $200 to spend on a digital lock and the convenience is worth it to you go for it. For me, a $200 lock should last a long time. I had 2 of these locks. One failed just inside the warranty window and Schlage replaced it. The other died in 5 years and Schlage will do nothing.

Great lock option
Makes life loads easier. No need to keys, can control remotely, app is easy to use, installed really quickly, looks good.

The wireless functionality is good for two reasons: 1) If you think you forgot to lock the font door. 2) If you need to give someone temporary access you can give them a code. One thing to remember is you'll still want a key as a backup, so you'll need to get a re-keying kit so that all the locks match. It's not the trickiest procedure, but it's not trivial either since getting the pins right and not losing springs can be a bit tricky.

After much research, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Schlage Encode, and I'm so glad I did. I love this lock! Installation instructions (especially the online interactive instructions) made it easy to install, although I did have to make a few minor modifications because it didn't quite retrofit to my old lock fittings. Now that it is installed, everything seems to be working perfectly. The Schlage Home app makes it super easy to lock/unlock the door (great to do from the car when you have an armload of shopping or from bed if you're not sure the door is locked), set up user codes for specific dates and times (which I need for my Airbnb guests) and notify me when the door is locked and unlocked. It can be set up to automatically lock or not after the door is open (great for when people leave to ensure the door is locked). I'm so happy not to have to take my key with me when going out. Definitely worth the price.

[UPDATE] There were some hiccups (see below - likely with their App or cloud service), but they seemed to be resolved within a few days - not sure reaching out to customer support made a difference? This lock actually changed my life - after 4+ months of using it, I do not have to worry about programming custom codes for AirBnb guests, setting the valid times, and worrying if they will be able to figure out and enter. So far, ZERO hiccups with checkins, a great solution that integrates with the AirBnb platform, I honestly could not be happier with any other solution for managing entry into short term rentals. [ORIGINAL] I bought this to replace my Nest x Yale lock for use with a short term rental, which is working generally good, but there is a known problem with some codes not being available after programming them in. I've had a horrible experience with someone being locked out for the night because the lock thought the code was out of schedule. This happens at least once every 10 stays, so I have to test the code myself and have a permanent backup code. Hence the need for a better smart lock. I've read good reviews about the encode, so decided to try it. Day 1 after receiving I installed, which is easy and just like the Nest lock, very simple. The App support for Android (latest OS and new phone) however makes this lock unusable. After adding the lock, there is no way to add codes or see history, it just comes up with an error in the App. Tech support was not help, but eventually I found a method where you go into Android settings and clear cache and storage, which forces you to login again, and then you have access to the codes and history, making it actually useful... However, after closing the App, same thing happens, so basically you have to clear cache and relogin every time you want to use the smart features of this lock. Furthermore, I was enticed by its integration with Airbnb, where supposedly don't even need to worry about programming codes.. well that doesn't work either, errors on the app when trying to authenticate between the two. Maybe it's a better experience for iPhone users, but this is a useless smart lock from my experience, will be returning, as this is day 3 since installing, and no solution in sight.

I had door installers put these on a new door for me (not a locksmith). Then I had someone else set it up for me. The app works great, takes only 1-2 seconds to respond. I was a little lost at first but the guide on Schlage's blog helped me out a lot. Easy to set up new users and virtual keys. Love it! It looks really pretty too ^_^ I bought mine with the matching handle and interior door levers :)

Easy to install and setup a breeze. Works flawlessly and you can lock/ unlock from your mobile if not home. Also check the status of the lock at anytime too.
