This is a very practical guide to Ladakh. It is well-organized for quick reference. It is a great help as I prepare for a month in Ladakh. The detailed description of excursions to popular areas/sights is particularly helpful: multiple options, distance and time estimates, recommended places to visit and ones to avoid, and practical info on local roads, food, connectivity, and lodging. Appendices are very detailed and practical lists: lodging, taxis, map, etc.

Not a regular travel guide. Possibly useful in addition to a regular one. Sounded like it would give an introduction to the culture and history, e.g. 'decode' the region. No pictures, no maps. No index to look anything up via key words, must leaf through the entire book instead. Super large space-wasting print lay-out, making it into an unnneccessarily bulky book that will be a burden to carry around when travelling. Could have said on 20 pages what it said on 300. Doesn't address solo or women travellers' risks or concerns at all, so I cannot make an informed decision whether to go trekking there or not. I leafted through it and sent it back.

This is doubtlessly the best book one can have to understand one of most beautiful and harsh terrain in our country,I have never come across anyone like Dheeraj ji his love, passion and soul lies here, being a local from this side I can say that. His guidance has helped thousands of travellers to plan their trips in best way with responsible manner and at the same time promoting local community with responsible travel plans with does and don’ts experienced guides, cabs and stays. His understanding to the place is unique as he knows the place as good as local and relates it as a traveller himself and with much contemplation he passes this to all Travelers as social cause, tirelessly for nearly last two decades now. Many times we have learnt from him how special, fragile and eco sensitive our place is , because of his efforts we have learnt that responsible tourism is not just on travellers end but much lies on hosts part also. in 2014 he had organised DOW mega meet with social causes it’s was then when I had learnt how a positive impact can be created from tourism and so on. I think those who miss on this book will miss on many things to ladhak. Now we eagerly wait for a book on Spiti valley also.
