Sketchy, but good for playing around with developer stuff
I bought two of this phone for developer testing, as in I wanted to play around with programming my own little apps and testing them safely on something that is not my real phone. 1st, they are advertised as $30ish and the feel/build and overall quality of the phone is definitely $30ish. However! I must not have been paying attention when purchasing because I got hit with shipping fees that made the two $30ish phones I bought end up costing me something like $130. Returning looks like a hassle because it's a 3rd party and for what they are I am actually fine with them so I am keeping the phones. 2nd, back to build quality. The phone body is plastic and to be honest, it feels like a toy and not very sturdy at all. I would be afraid of breaking the phone if I put it in my back pocket and sat on it. It flexes a lot when just handling it, so you really ought to be careful because there is a large lithium battery in there that does not flex. With all the flexing and cheap feel (which is totally fine for the price) I would be concerned about the screen going out. Again just be careful if you are planning to use this phone as a real phone. 3rd, ummm, I'd be wary of using this phone as a real phone. The manufacturer seems to be Huang Yiting from the one sticker on the package that seemed to have any identifying information on it. I cannot find any real information on the company. That said, after charging the phone immediately turns on without asking for an email to tether to which is interesting but makes sense because there is no sim card in the phone. Looking over the phone, and note I have not connected it to the wifi yet... The phone appears to be an android "image"/version of the operating system from 2010! All of the pre-loaded apps would indicate the same as well based on the graphic design style of the icons. The phone's information also claims that it is a: Model: S24Ultra Mainboard: MTK6580M Android version: 10.0 Android security patch level: November 16, 2023 Baseband version: MOLY.WR8.W1449.MD.WG.MP.V199,2023/02/03 13:35 Kernel version: 3.18.79 (gcc version 6.3.1 20170404 (Linaro GCC 6.3-2017.05)) mt07@mt07 #2 Tue Apr 2 13:41:42 CST 2024 Build number: D5D3B1D_DX_DP25_O_WELCOME_B T15_FW_B1258_ER381_M01_20240 402_1339 Now... I am way too new to app development and coding to make any real sense of this, BUT I know when something looks suspicious. It seems to be attempting to be a knock-off of a Samsung S24 Ultra...and yet it is running a very weird, very outdated android version etc. Gonna be honest, I am legitimately afraid of hacking/spyware in this phone. So I will not connect this phone to my home's internet etc. I am going to play around with it and see if I can wipe it and install a fresh Operating System on it etc, but I doubt I'll get far. If you want to play around with a phone that might be dangerous for developer reasons, then this is fine. If you want a serious budget phone to use as your everyday personal device I cannot in good conscience recommend this phone. If you need a good budget phone, I've gotten great Motorola phones here on amazon for $70 or $80 before. If that is still to expensive for you, I suggest trying your local pharmacy like CVS, RiteAid or Walgreens or a Walmart. It's been ages since I need a phone like that, but that was where I could get some thing cheap for teenager adventuring through the southwest. 4th, last note! The phone has instructions for you to open it and remove a safety film from the battery pack before using! Don't forget to do that! My phone however didn't have the safety film on the battery when I opened it up to check - so I may have gotten a used and returned phone too. Just be careful!
