Yet they're also in a fairly comfortable groove with one another. McGowan, who joined the cast in year 4 as a replacement for Shannen Doherty, is now a perfect fit, turning Paige into a self-deprecating, uber-witch whose clipped dialogue meshes beautifully with Milano's neurotic phrasing and Combs' no-nonsense bark. Season 5 ties up a lot of loose ends, heralds some major shifts in the show's running narrative, and ushers in a couple of new characters. One of the latter is Piper's baby by husband Leo (Brian Krause), the angelic Whitelighter whose role as an emissary of the heavenly Elders changes dramatically in the two-part finale, "Oh, My Goddess!" Before that happens, however, Phoebe must contend with the reappearance of her husband, the demon Cole (Julian McMahon), who is determined to win her back by proving his evil nature is under control. As usual, all the sisters must use the Power of Three to protect a number of vulnerable mortals, and even some immortals. Among these are a mermaid whose immortality is sought by a greedy demon, several wood nymphs frolicking in the streets of San Francisco, and married men targeted by a hot Siren with a killer kiss. Season highlights include "Happily Ever After," in which characters from multiple fairy tales come to life; "Lucky Charmed," a fun story introducing a demon-vanquishing Leprechaun; and "Sense and Sense Ability," a clever drama in which Phoebe goes deaf, Piper becomes blind, and Paige turns mute as the result of a wicked witch's spell. The aforementioned finale sees all three sisters officially acknowledged as the goddesses they truly are. But it also introduces a new, major character, Chris (Drew Fuller), who seems benevolent but may very well be a wolf in sheep's clothing. We shall see. --Tom Keogh Review: My favourite season yet! - Well I know it seems to be controversial but this is my favourite season so far. It's great to see Rose Macgowen really comming into her own, she is really refreshing from Shannon Doherty and there is a much more even dynamic to the show. We see Piper becoming more motherly which is really important for later series as it becomes a crucial drive for her. As much as we will all miss Cole - ENOUGH ALL READY! The Cole/Pheobe story line went on for a while and it is great to see Alyssa Milano freed up for the next season, this isn't her strongest performance. I think this season is really fun and lively and a great exploration of the characters. It is a prelude for a kick into high gear in six and seven, leaving the Chris and Avatar storylines a mystery at this point. Keep this in mind and I think you will really enjoy it. Centennial Charmed is my favourite episode in this season, not only does it set the tone for the rest of the season and the next but it's the one which I think officialy made Paige my favourite sister. Review: Present - Very pleased

Charmed Season 5
As with the rest of the Charmed series I was an avid viewer and was really sad when the series finished up. When the series were new on the television I remember my friend and myself would hold weekly Charmed nights where we would watch the weeks new episode whilst enjoying a few glasses of vino with it! I ordered the box set to go along with the rest of the set that I had and have now got the full series seasons 1 to 8. This is one of those box sets that you can watch again and again as each episode was a new little story obviously in the greater scheme of the plot. Absolutely loved Charmed and wish they would either bring it back with a maybe 10 years later view or do a spin off with their children etc, never mind and here's hoping! I would fully recommend this series to anyone.

A very different feel
Charmed still remains very entertaining in it's 5th year and doesn't dissapoint as far as action goes. However I don't think this season is as good as s1-4, as it has a very different feel to it. This season goes down a much lighter route: starting with mermaids, then superheroes, leprachauns, nymphs, fairytales etc. I personally prefer Charmed dark, which is why I love seasons 1-4, as the focus was witches fighting demons and warlocks with one or two lighter episodes in each season. Season 5 just has a few too many lighter episodes for my liking. However the season does have it's highlights: Piper's pregnancy and Paige getting more than she bargains for when the Elders give her her first charge as a whitelighter, for example. I couldn't help but fall out of love with Phoebe and Cole this season as I thought the way Phoebe went from one extreme to the other each episode with how she treated him, I'm not suprised by how it ends but personally blame her entirely and found it a bit unrealistic. The finale is great and ends with a major cliffhanger. Season 6 is quite a bit darker and season 7 is a huge improvement in my opinion, so if you like the darker stories, I reccomend that you stick with it, this season is as light as it gets.

depatures and arrivals
fifth season of charmed, a fantasy show that ran for eight years and is about three sisters who are also witches. and their attempts at witch life/work life/personal life balance. you could possibly get into the show at the start of this season, but with a fair amount of backstory resulting from the years beforehand it's best to start with those. this box set contains the twenty three episodes of the season [the first and last episodes are two parters edited into eighty two minute long features] spread over six discs. there are no extras whatsover, and no direct scene access to the episodes. the only other things on the discs are the langugage options: english french german italian and spanish and the subtitles: english danish dutch french german italian norwegian spanish and swedish. as mentioned, the uninitiated should start with season one. for those who have followed the show all the way so far, this season has two main plotlines. phoebe's continuing relationship with cole, and the impending arrival of piper and leo's baby. over the course of the episodes, as these storylines play themselves out, the charmed ones will encounter various monsters and fairytale creatures. each plot will put them into a lot of problems and threaten to tear the family apart, but generally things are wrapped up quickly at the end of each episode with a spell or a potion or both. this can get a bit predictable, but the show is never less than enjoyable thanks to the character dynamic. even the episode lucky charmed, featuring some potentially annoyingly stereotypical leprechauns works because it's primarily about the halliwells. julian mcmahon does make the cole episodes great by virtue of some excellent acting as a man on the brink of insanity. once his plotline is resolved the baby arrives a few episodes later, and then the storyline of the pregnancy becomes how they cope with a new arrival. the season finale brings in a new character with an air of mystery about them, and has quite a surprising cliffhanger that will make you eager to get onto season six. but if you've come this far with charmed, like you're not going to watch it anyway? this season is good enough to make you go straight onto number six
