This is hands down the best air purifier (and fantastic value) for "pollution season" in any Indian city, with a few caveats: -Just ignore the built-in sensor and purchase a separate sensor. In any case, a sensor shouldn't be kept on continuously, it should be used for spot checks. In other words, this unit's built-in air quality sensor is almost useless but I'm still awarding it 5 stars because of how well it cleans the air. (I don't really trust the in-built sensor of any air purifier and always use an independent device). -Keep this purifier on "high" mode during pollution season when you're purifying a room. Low / Medium / Auto modes aren't really made for the conditions here and I never use them. Yes, it's loud, but it does a fantastic job (again, you can verify this with a separate air quality sensor). Remember that the times when air pollution tends to be the worst is night and early morning. At night time the sound of its fan can be a kind of white noise... -To see results (and not clog your filters), doors and windows should be SHUT and exhaust fans turned off. Also, if you're really serious about air quality in the home you'll need multiple purifiers running in different parts of the home (depending on the square footage). -When doors or windows are open, turn the purifier OFF. -Definitely use a pre-filter such as "BreatheEasy Pre-Filter for Sharp FU-A80E-W." You can gently vacuum the pre-filter once a week and replace it when needed (you'll know when it's getting clogged). Using a pre-filter will SIGNIFICANTLY extend the life of the much more expensive filters inside the unit. -Air purifiers need to be cleaned regularly! Gently vacuum the filters (don't get them wet), wipe down the unit with a damp cloth and change the pre-filters routinely. During pollution season this should be done like every two weeks (depending on the conditions and how much the unit is being used). -Some air purifier users are disappointed because they can't really feel any difference when using the purifier because the difference in the air might feel subtle. To see what it's actually doing you need to use a quality sensor and then you can compare the numbers. The difference is jaw-dropping. With the above points in mind, I wholeheartedly recommend this unit. It's not the newest or flashiest model you can get but it shines in an air purifier's MAIN job (taking the harmful particles out of the air) and with the pre-filters available, its main filters last longer than most. Note: Our family has owned roughly 7 of these units over the past 12 years and (touch wood) we've never experienced any technical faults, though we have always taken good care of them.
