I recently bought the RUSTINS Red Oxide Metal Primer 1L from Amazon, and I’m very pleased with the results. The primer goes on smoothly with a brush or roller, giving a strong and even coverage. It dries fairly quickly to a nice flat finish, which makes it ideal for overcoating with other paints. I used it on some metal surfaces that were starting to show signs of rust, and it adhered really well, leaving a solid protective base. It’s not too thick or runny, making application easy even on tricky areas. The coverage is excellent, so a little goes a long way. Overall, this is a reliable and high-quality primer that does exactly what it promises. Great value for money, and I’d definitely buy it again for future projects.

Iron oxide is the perfect paint fir making a piece look rusty while actually protecting it from rust. I use is to maje rusty/crusty antiquing tins, add wax on top snd then cinnamon and it's perfect!

I've always used the Rustins grey solvent-based primer for metal which is very good, but no longer available so had to buy this water-based version. Also, I preferred grey but that wasn't available in 500ml so had to buy red. So, not expecting much from a water-based product which was a dark colour (top coat was white satin Rustins radiator enamel) I primed the bare metal parts of the radiators. Wow! It really sticks to the bare metal with no thin patches, just a solid red coverage. I accidentally got some on white uPVC and by the time I got to the kitchen and back for a wet cloth, it had attached itself really well to that as well and I had to rub hard to get it off the uPVC. One thing that others have noted, if the can has been stood for a while the paint will separate, with watery liquid on top and almost solid paint at the bottom. After 3 minutes of stirring it was still not fully mixed so I used one blade of the food mixer on a slow speed and soon it was completely mixed. I quickly rinsed the mixer blade and no-one was any wiser :-) Next day I painted the radiators with Rustins white satin radiator enamel (also water-based) and despite my worry that the red would show through the white top coat, it covered really well after the first coat and after two coats (in the same day, a benefit of water-based paint!) the radiators are looking perfectly white. I also used it to prime the old copper pipes that feed the radiators and again it just hugs the pipes and gives a really nice solid primed surface. Wonderful paint!

Be careful when you order. I’m guessing our order froze. Primer would not mix together. Used paint by same manufacturer and it was great. Returned to Amazon.
