In season six of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the dangers grow even direr for the crew of the Enterprise. During a behind-the-lines mission, Captain Jean-Luc Picard falls into the hands of a seasoned Cardassian torturer. In an attempt to learn the truth about his father, Worf breaks into a Romulan prison compound. A transporter malfunction resurrects the original series’ Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott. Riker copes with a bizarre identity crisis that pits him quite literally against himself and Data’s quest to understand emotion introduces him to the concept of rage.Where No One Has Gone BeforeIn the seventh season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the series concluded – but not before airing some of its most unforgettable episodes. Data feels emotion at last, but the quest has made him easy prey for a faction of the Borg. Worf finds himself in conflict with his human foster brother and Captain Jean-Luc Picard discovers that he is trapped between his future and his past in a final trial involving the mysterious Q. For every beginning, there is an end. One chapter of the Star Trek saga was closing... but the mission of discovery would live on. Review: the complete 'Next Generation' on Blu-ray - This is the Blu-ray box set of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' - and it's a fantastic collection. It comprises of 41 discs, which present all 176 episodes of the show. You get an attractive and sturdy outer-box, within which are two large Blu-ray cases: one case contains seasons 1 to 4, and the other case contains seasons 5 to 7. In addition to the 130 hours of episodes, there's a host of special features. This is a well presented collection, and fans of Star Trek will thoroughly enjoy it! If one compares the quality of the Blu-ray to the previously available DVD's, it's immediately apparent that this is now a HD show - and, fortunately, it was originally recorded on film, so there was no need to 'upscale' anything. In fact, when the show was seen on TV - as well as on VHS and DVD - it was 'down-scaled' as the quality was to high for such formats! So now we get to see "The Next Generation" as it was intended - with glorious video and excellent audio. The show originally ran from 1987 to 1994. It's a continuation - or sequel - to the "Star Trek" TV series from the 1960's. And the first episode of "The Next Generation" takes place a century after the start of Captain Kirk's five-year mission of the original series. Now the latest starship 'Enterprise' is headed by Captain Picard - and this show explores the adventures of Picard and his crew as they "boldly go where no one has gone before". For its price (under £70 as I review), this is a bargain. This is a terrific sci-fi show - indeed, it defined what was meant by 'science fiction television' in the late 1980's and 1990's. I fully recommend it. Review: Simply Wonderful - I first heard about this remastering project in Sept 2011, so I waited over three years for this to arrive! - Film quality / sound quality: Basically, the quality is wonderful. It really feels like you're watching it for the first time. The first thing that struck me was how bright everything was - in the original (DVD etc) masters, everything is dark and faded. The earlier seasons were even tinted red and blurry, to add insult to injury. This remastering has been done meticulously. The sound is sharp and in surround, just as promised. It is a little grainy at times, but that's a limitation of the film stock unfortunately. - What about the effects? Something many fans will be wary about is any effects that have been redone. Well, the only shots that have been redone somewhat are the ones where it shows the Enterprise orbiting a planet. And the difference is amazing; the new planet effects look realistic - with a proper atmosphere and texture. The old planet shots, in comparison, look like the Enterprise is orbiting a cardboard painting. It doesn't look any 'cheesier' than it was, and, one of the special features on the first disc shows some of the CBS crew remastering the planetary shots - even subtle shadows have been resurrected from the original composites. The original effects designers in 1987 were geniuses - but they were limited by the constraints of videotape editing! Edit: Actually all the planet shots look like the one behind the ship on the outside of the box-set (you can see it in the product image). That is a good representation of it than any. - Is it widescreen? Nope; the original effects composites were created for 4:3 unfortunately, and many camera negatives showed lights or studio equipment poking out of the sides of the frame, so they couldn't make it widescreen without chopping off a lot of the top/bottom details. There's a special feature on the first disc that explains why. If you really wanted to, you could just zoom in on the TV so that it fills the sides. - Are there any special features? Yes! They spent a lot of time on adding special features, and there's even a new cast meet up video where they talk about what they think about the remaster. New commentaries, deleted scenes and interviews are all included as well as three new HD documentaries about the music, series development and the final season. - What's the box set like? It's fairly compact actually; it's a standard Blu-Ray box set but inside there are two jumbo Amaray cases which hold seasons 1-4 and 5-7. The special features are included on the first discs of each season. - Is it worth the price? Absolutely! Plus, CBS Digital are considering remastering DS9 and Voyager, but, their go-ahead is sadly dependent on the sales of TNG-HD. - Any gripes? The artwork on the box set could have been nicer - eg more character orientated (rather than lots of federation insignia / shots of the Enterprise). Other than that, nothing really.

Admirably over-delivers on expectation
Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1-7 [Blu-ray] [Region Free ] After reading (and researching) what box set I should look at getting, my head was about to explode choosing between the DVD and Blu-ray variants. Ultimately I went in the Blu-ray direction and what I saw and heard astonished. Brilliantly redone. No need to review the individual episodes, as we all know how fantastic the adventure is, else you wouldn't be looking at the box sets in the first place. What I can say, is that even the early episodes are masterfully done, even on my older 42" 1080p screen it looks amazing. What they did to the remastering has taken nothing away from the look and feel of what we all love, what they have done is brilliant, and the aspect ratio does absolutely nothing to degrade your viewing experience (if that was a concern). Through the surround system it sounds crystal clear to. I have probably watched the series once / twice / many times over all the years it's appeared on TV, and yet, watching "Encounter at Farpoint" again on bluray was all it took to want to enjoy it all again, and i briefly revisited nostalgia as a kid, sitting in my brothers bedroom at 6pm after school waiting to see this gem. I, for once have nothing to critique. This timeless and priceless series has been reincarnated with this set, it's impossible to dislike. Even the box and packaging (in my opinion) is well thought out and looks superb. It's a 5 star all the way. I was hoping that the Blu-ray edition wouldn't disappoint. It didn't, it over-delivered.

BOTTOM LINE: The worthy successor to the classic original series gets the (inter)stellar hi-def polish in this all-encompassing 7-season boxset. Everything about this massive set is first rate. And it's all here, so you don't have to go chasing down odds & ends... with the exception of the theatrical ST:TNG films. But that's a minor quibble (Tribble?). If you've been wanting to pick up the best possible version of the Next Generation then deactivate your scanners and look no further. Just whip out your credit card and "Make it so!" 5 STARS THOUGHTS: It was with great excitement (and more than a little trepidation) that I sat down to watch the premiere episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation on September 28, 1987. Having grown up with the classic series I knew that this show had some large boots to fill. As each season went on it just got better and better. Sure, there were a few rough patches but the show, like the Enterprise herself, weathered them and soldiered on undaunted. The cast became near and dear to my heart and I was sad to see it end some seven years and 178 episodes later, but I also knew that it was better to go out on somewhat of a high point, rather than sink into oblivion and slink out of site. Now, more than 20 years after it left the airwaves, we get this spectacular deluxe boxset, in high definition with extras out the wazoo and the shows themselves tweaked, fine-tuned and looking & sounding better than ever. This is the set you've been waiting for. If you're on the fence because of the price, don't worry. It's worth every penny. Even if you're just a casual fan you'll be very pleased with this all-inclusive edition. The seasons are divided into two massive snapcases with each disc thankfully locked onto its own hub, rather than stacked on a central post or stuffed into little sleeves, like some poor series. There are loads of special features scattered throughout every disc in the set, so you'll find fun stuff sprinkled everywhere for you to look though, pour over and enjoy. Vintage pieces, newly shot interviews & remembrances, technical tidbits, alternate and/or lost footage, and more! A trekker's treasure trove, to be sure. THE BLU-RAYS: Picard & the crew get the razzle dazzle refreshing they’ve been in dire need of since the first VHS and early DVDs hit video store shelves so many years ago. Each episode has been gone through and cleaned & painstakingly restored to as close to brand new as you can get. I was amazed at how well these shows looked. You can tell the team in charge of the restoration & remastering were fans, too. There are some pieces where they compare before & after, and once you've seen what wonders these folks achieved you'll be oh so glad you bought this set. I know I sure am. Highly recommended.

First off, RAREWAVES-CA, 2nd purchase from you and you guys are still awesome. Been waiting to buy this series on Blu-ray for about 2 years. Hesitated because of price and the fact that I spent A FORTUNE on the DVD box set seasons. I finally took the dive and shelled out the bucks. The anticipation was too much but as with my first dealings with RAREWAVES-CA out of the U.K., the package came FAST. Cue the heartbreak... the package arrived damaged, quite damaged. The Box-set took it's lumps and showed some scars to say the least. RAREWAVES-CA took care of things and I am remain very impressed with them. The Blu-ray's themselves are unbelievable! I played my DVD version and then immediately swapped out for the Blu-ray version and they are not even comparable. The DVD set that I have loved so much and watched for so long, suddenly looked like garbage. The color saturation, the INCREDIBLE 7.1 MASTER DTS AUDIO and the shear crispness of the image of the Blu-rays, make this an entirely new viewing experience. It is worth mentioning that CBS spent a fortune in time and money, rebuilding this entire series element by element and episode by episode. The resources that went into this rebuild is staggering and the resulting product is amaaazing. Because EACH and EVERY frame of the original 70mm film was scanned in high resolution (think about that for a moment...) the aspect ratio remains 4:3 as it was before the advent of wide screen TV. Although CBS looked at ways of making the series a 16:9 format, there was not enough information in many shots to achieve widescreen without messing (read messing up) the proper perspective and aspect ratio. So, bottom line is this series DOES NOT come in widescreen and it matters little to not. TRUST ME. The pros of what they have done, surpass that unachievable upgrade. There are additional bonus features with this set BUT virtually all the bonus features are in their native 480p and simply become a little harder to watch after seeing the episodes in all their Blu-ray glory. Despite buying something that I already own on DVD, I do not at all regret buying it again on Blu-ray. The whole family is ripping through the episodes like kids with candy on Halloween. We are loving them all. If you're wanting to do it and can afford it - DO IT! The pricing of this box set is so much better than the individual season pricing. That leaves very little excuse for those that really want STNG at it's finest...
