Yale P-2PM444-PB-2 Door Security Bolt, Polished Brass Finish, pack of 2, Standard Security, Visi Packed, suitable for hinged and wooden doors

I found these locks to be of good quality and at a great price. I found them easy to install and I had both locks fitted in about half an hour. I advise fitting one at the top and one in the middle underneath the handle. They were used on an internal door. I bought these after hearing about so many burglaries and cars being stolen so wanted to have an added bit of security while I slept. These do the job perfect and I feel anyone trying to get through the door would struggle. You will require a drill, a 16mm and 8mm wood bit, a posi drive screwdriver, a tape measure and some wood chisels.

Very easy to fit it took no more that ten minutes, seem very robust. The perfect option if you need an added level of security. The only thing that was missing were the plates to go over the key holes, only two were supplied rather than four but it’s a minor gripe

These are reasonable quality product from a well known brand. The packaging contains all the fixtures and fixings with each component being quite nice quality. The dimensions are true, everything is square and there are no unsightly welds like most of the other generic options on Amazon. For the price difference these are the Security Bolts to buy. They are not perfect though. They key itself is metal and double sided with a grey plastic removable sleeve forming the key shape. This is a nice touch as it allows for it to be flipped around if one end is damaged. The downside of this is the key itself feels a little flimsy. The main issue with this lock are the tolerances. Everything to do the locking actions itself is sloppy with play in every axis which can lead to the possibility of forcing the lock incorrectly. The bottom line these are still the best Security Bolt I have found but still have room for quality improvements. Until I find a lock with tighter tolerances I wouldn't hesitate to buy again or recommend.

We’ve tried: 1) Baby gates and door nob locks which worked till he was about two and ripped them out of the wall or figure out how to open. 2) Door lever locks which handle our door lever handle. These worked till he was about 4. We moved to the metal latches which bought us another 3 months till he figured out how to climb up using a chair/dresser/books/laundry and flip the lock at the top. The cardinal gate door lock works great for doors going out of the house (so at least we know he is in the house) as those door always open into our home but we had no internal defenses to to stop our son from day and night rampaging in all parts of our home. This lock ended that issue (for the moment anyway). It’s really versatile as you can set the lock to work from one side of the door or both sides. You can open the lock with a Phillips head screw driver but the key are a nice convenience and you can buy extra keys! The lock does require some effort to install. I bought some metric drill bits (~$15 for an 8 and 16 mm drill bit set) and used a chisel set I already have to chisel the latch and lock into the side of the door. My first install took an hour, my second one took 20 minutes. So we are happy and set for now. I’m sure our son will eventually figure out how to defeat these locks but he is getting more responsible and we should not need to locks sooon; but for now our pantry, laundry room, my daughter’s room and a storage closet are safe.
