The Flash Volume 1: Move Forward TP (The New 52): 01 (Flash (DC Comics Numbered))

Great way to leap into the New 52 DC comics line. Had never read anything about the Flash before but this was a really fun introduction. The stakes aren't too high in this first volume and it just eases you in and shows you the possibilities that are abound for someone with the Flash's abilities. The art was fantastic and the story pleasantly written. Swept through it in an hour.

Barry Allen is the fastest man alive. As the Flash, he helps save the lives of people in the Gem Cities. When a noted scientist tells him his use of the Speed Force may be causing wormholes in spacetime, one of which blacked out Central City, Allen decides to control how often and how fast he runs. A bold new take on the Flash, the art works with the plot to showcase Barry's world falling apart as the Speed Force takes over. Barry is likeable and the Flash is full of life with Isis West and Patty Spivot competing for Barry's attention. A great start to the New 52 Flash.

As one of my first-up-to-date-proper-volumes of comics I was presently surprised by this. As you might've been told, it jumps straight into the action within the first few pages, and I didn't mind this, since due to abrupt action of the comic your mind forgets to complain. The story is good, and the highlight of the comic is when The Flash encounters Captain Cold-where there is time running out fast on each page a timer stands, it builds up the tension beautifully. I, like some other, reviewers, didn't find myself getting bored at all, and found the Mob Rule storyline interesting due to the fact that the Flash having a connection with him. The brilliance of this comic lies in the art, the really lovely tone-almost like watercolour, makes it easy to read. At points the artist breaks up the panels of the page, changes tone hugely, and it all works as a visual treat. Sometimes I find in comics things aren't one hundred percent clear but that never occurs here. The story also improves throughout and is brilliant near the end. Maybe most importantly I do relate to the Flash and his certain relationships, a great comic here- easily recommended.

I feel the other reviews of this book here are a little bit harsh really. The snippets on the back of this book are a much more accurate reflection of the contents. This new version of The Flash sets off at a brisk pace and slowly picks up pace as it goes along. It's a simple and straightforward superhero story with a very likeable and believable main character. What really comes across is how much the writers both like and understand Barry Allen -and that can be extremely important in comics. You can feel the passion and effort that this new creative team are putting into every page. And some of the pages are absolutely breathtaking. Has to be seen to be believed. The artwork is top notch. I would say if you've ever wanted to get into The Flash and if you want a good fun superhero book to read, you could do a lot worse than buying this. A lot worse.

Having followed the TV show I was a bit worried reading this would feel like rehashing old territory. This Barry and the world he inhabits isnt the one from the show. I really, really enjoyed this book (more so than the show) - Flash is so awesomly powerful - which I had heard before but hadn't really fully appreciated until now. I will be collecting the series for sure.

So pleased with this comic.I have just recently started watching the series of flash, so I had decided to pick this up and already money well spent. The first of many planning on getting the next one.Great way to introduce yourself to the amazing universe that is DC ,very entertaining,as good as the Capullo and Snyder's series of Batman. And not to mention the amazing service from Amazon, the price was superb .

I don't know if I liked it. Weird story set up. - firstly, there is no origin story - first story is about a friend of flash - friend has healing factors - others after friend for said factor (wolverine anyone?) - Barry tries to help him - second story is about Barry's speed force - speed force is ripping worm holes/vortexes - Barry gets sent through one into a gorilla world that would fit in with planet of the apes Both stories were a little weak. I found the start of the second story boring, losing interest fairly quickly. The plots were boring, and the allude to Planet of the Apes above made my eyes roll. Not crazy on the art work. Numerous, and I mean numerous, small frames on one page showing multiple things in an attempt to show you how quick flash processes the world. As a reader it just made the story seem disjointed, and at times rushed. Overall, not too keen. I bought the comic as it was on a £3 sale and because I thought I might enjoy it after the Flash series started on Sky1. The comic is no where near as good as the show which is a shame. If you can get it on sale it's an okay read.

Was resisting buying this; since it was a relaunch starring the most boring of the flash family & I was all butthurt over DC killing Wally off (stabbed in the back by Didio). However, I was pleasantly surprised. This is probably the jewel in the crown of the new 52, thanks in no small part to Francis Manapul's incredible artwork - it really is a lesson to others on how to make a story exciting and will no doubt set the standard for all that follow on this title

C'est un super duo (manapul et buccaleto) qui nous livre un super comics. Les dessins sont très très beaux, et la composition des pages est toujours très intelligente, elle est bien adaptée à l'histoire. Pour moi ça c'est un vrai comics : il y a un vrai travail visuel, plus que le dessin, c'est la composition de la page qui est réfléchie. On est presque dans du roman graphique par moment. Au niveau du scénario, c'est aussi super. Et c'est pas mal d'apprécier sur la longueur : les mêmes auteurs ont écris 3 tomes. Je recommande, cette édition permet de tout lire à la suite, et c'est vraiment appréciable. Le format souple est agréable et économique, pas besoin de payer plus.
