Wasn't optimistic
After reading all the negative comments I wasn't optimistic about buying, but after buying a small 3 speed floor fan that was perfect apart from being too fast and noisy even on speed 1, I thought worth a try to slow it down. Glad I did as works perfectly, can slow down to stop using the dial and any speed in between. Zero noise or buzzing that others have mentioned. I imagine it depends on the specific motor type perhaps, but with my fan it's exactly what I needed to control it

Fan too fast? Here's how I slowed mine down!
I honestly didn't expect much from this 'gadget' but I was surprised to discover it not only slows my regular 10" desk fan, but can also controls the speed of my (virtual hurricane) floor standing industrial 18" B&Q fan too. I rated it four star only for it's one niggly drawback. The fan needs to be switched to full power mode, else the motor will hum loudly as it's speed is progressively lowered below below 80%, the lower the speed the louder the hum, until the fan eventually stalls completely. Pro's: Does what it says on the listing. Con's: The point between too fast and dead stop can be a bit of a juggling act. Conclusion: Was it worth the money? YES! ✅

Not for for purpose
This is the second one of these that's broken on me in the last 3 weeks. Unserviceable once they break as the fuse is soldered to the board inside. Proper useless.

I used this with a random orbital sander. To use for buffing (lower speed).
Just wanted speed control over orbital sanders, and random orbital sanders, to use for gentler buffing/polishing off of headlamp oxide etc..used with maguiar’s compound, and this Black & Decker, as it doesn’t have a speed control https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PVXWTPB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details However, random orbital is gentler than ‘proper’ simple spinning orbital sander anyway, so maybe I was over-cautious. But, any electrical device up to the power rating of this unit, is usable with it. It’s most useful then, with a situation where you find the right setting and leave it there. I put a sliver of white sticky label, to act as a position arrow, on the dial. Perfectly decent unit, if you want robustness, just wrap it in duck tape or something, but be aware, it may need to expel heat at some point. It does what you expect, slows down electrical devices or reduces them from full power - I cannot speak for use as a light dimmer, because modern LED lamps etc, require the voltage stays the same I think, and need correctly dimmed or they flicker, become unpleasant? Anyway, good unit, works well limiting the Black & Decker random orbital sander down to sensible speeds for plastic surface buffing with suitable compound or even T-cut if you’re stuck (it’s a bit slow and wet/sloppy is the issue there, messy). Take care all.

Internally fused with security screws locking you out.
These have an internal fuse which blows. I bought two one failed under normal use, the other is still working.

It works very well 😄 very pleased.
Put this controller on table fan to 🦥 it down 👇 the fans lowest speed was to high.

Simple design, but does what it is supposed too.
Mine arrived in a clearly used condition and seemed faulty where by the bottom 2 wholes were not opening when the top pin hole was pressed so I had to sort of jam it open whilst opening the other side but all in all it does it's job and alters my fan speed so not to fussed about slight fault. UPDATE!!! I purchased 3 more on the basis they are a great little device the further 3 were all working perfectly. I am also a big "fan" and would also go as far as to say they are just "fan-tastic" ☺️
