Great, Great Hiker's Hat -- Sizing Issue
The Tilley Hiker's hat is now my go-to hat for all outdoor activities. Light, and an extended 3.5 " brim to add extra protection for the face and back of the neck, and 2.5" for the sides. Also, the Hiker's hat has what Tilley refers to as "wind cords"; one for under the chin and an adjustable one for the back of the head to keep it from blowing off; ingenious. NOTE: Sizing is an issue. I normally wear an L 7 5/8 or 61 cm in most hats. However, Tilley's website, based on the tape measurement of the circumference of my head, recommended a size 7 3/4 or 62 cm approximately. Still, the 7 3/4 was a tad snug but not uncomfortable thankfully (talk about a big head!). If I ever have to replace this hat (which Tilley will replace at 50% of the cost if damaged, frayed, etc.), I will order a 7 7/8; their largest size... Although some reviewers in the Question/Answer section of this webpage stated that the front brim did not pop up when the wind blew, mine did. Had to lower my head to keep it from flipping up but only when the wind blew over 20 mph. Otherwise, the front brim stayed put; unlike another sun hat that I wore a couple of days before... Sooo glad I got this particular Tilley hat. While Tilley has several other hats that also have the 3/4" mesh insert around the top of the hat to provide airflow, only the Hiker's hat has the "HyperKew Evaporative" cooling pad that worked like a charm. I soaked the cooling pad in tap water for 5 minutes per instructions and inserted the pad in the mesh compartment sewn in the inside of the crown. When the wind blew through the mesh insert the cooling effect was greatly enhanced by the cooling pad. Unlike the other popular and less expensive sun hat, I did not have to lift the Hiker's hat to cool off my head. Because of the quality construction, 50 SPF, floatabillity, excellent cooling features and Tilley's lifetime replacement guarantee, the extra cost of the Tilley Hiker's was well worth it. Thank you Tilley for making such a superior hiking hat.

Most comfortable hat ever for hot days.
This is my second Tilley hat, the first one has worn out twice in 20 years with free replacement (plus shipping and handling). While I was waiting for the return hat, I ordered another to avoid being without one, I use this hat at all times. Now I have two. The cooling bladder really helps on those long hot California hikes. I ordered a size larger than standard because I like the loose fit. The string holds it in place should a wind come up. I also wear this rafting on the river. Great hat!

Buy it. You will be glad you did.
The best in its class, by a loooong way. Nothing comes close to it.

A good golf hat, but a little hot
I have been looking for a wide-brimmed golf hat that breathes well. This Tilley is the best one I've found so far, but I still find it to be a little warm. It works best when there isn't a lot of wind. If it's windy out, I usually choose a normal golf hat, since the brim of this one is soft and tends to be distracting in high wind. The hat can blow off as well, unless you use the cords to hold it down (which I don't - I tuck them up inside the hat). This hat has a wet pad that's supposed to keep your head cool, but I didn't feel like it was doing anything, so I prefer to wear it without the pad. Note that this hat is made in China, not Canada as the description says. It does have a lifetime warranty if you register it with Tilley. It seems very well-made, so it doesn't bother me that it came from China. It looks good and does the job better than the Titleist and Adidas hats I own, so I'm happy!

Worlds best hat for outdoors
Wide brim, light, cotton, sun blocking, floats and stylish. Absolutely love this hat. So much so I bought a second one. When working outside and sweating a lot it helps to put on bandana so I bought a second one of slightly larger size and it fits perfectly with a bandana.

The product is excellent. The delivery is TERRIBLE. The associate just left it in the middle of the floor. Not next to the door, not in large mailbox. In the middle of the floor!!

Tl;dr - my new favourite hat. Fantastic quality and guaranteed for life by the manufacturer. Fits exactly as hoped; super comfortable [using the manufacturer's advised measuring guide: head measurement of 58cm (23in), add 2cm for comfort - i.e. ordered the 60cm (7 1/2)]. Absolutely worth the extra money. Being bald and having a shaved head, I wear hats throughout the year to protect from the sun. When in the great outdoors in the summer, I used to use my beloved Outdoor Research Helium, which was cheap (£30) and performed well for several years, although it was never winning any fashion awards. However, I thought it was looking a bit tatty and it did get a very sweaty when it was hot, so I opted to test out the similarly priced Columbia Bora Bora II... which I hated. The ventilation was far too loose and would've provided large sections of unprotected scalp, and the materials and brim were floppy and questionable. In the end I didn't even both wearing it. Doing more research I came upon Tilley hats. There's a load of hoo-ha on the internet about them being made in China nowadays instead of Canada, but ultimately everyone seems to love them. I picked a wide-brimmed, cotton hat with ventilation because it ticked every box for me. On arrival, I can tell you that the quality of the workmanship is incredibly high, China or not. The fit is incredible. It feels loose, but yet extremely secure on my head; even leaning over and shaking my head, there is no movement. No tightness on the brow and plenty of room in the crown for airflow, with the added bonus of the sponge pad in the hidden pocket, to apply water if desired in desert-like conditions. The clever use of a (comfortable) single piece of lace allows you to secure the hat to the back of your head for windy weather, and also use the chin strap at the front if you're in gale-force winds! In contrast, it makes my formerly well-loved OR Helium feel misfitting and inadequate. I will be thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2024 and I have no doubt that this hat will last the entire length of the trip and many years beyond that, so long as I don't lose it!
