Sony Minidisc MDS-JE510

The Sony MDS JE 510 mini-disc player / recorder was an upgrade to my old Sony MDS JE 320 mini-disc player / recorder the old one door just wouldn't eject anymore, as it was purchased way back in 1998, I was surprised it lasted that long this Sony MDS JE 510 mini-disc player / recorder was used , but was in very good condition, and didn't have that door-eject-jam problem, so over all I'm was very pleased to now have a updated version of this classic mini-disc player / recorder , I still had well over 200 blank min-disc, so I just didn't want to let it die, and go to the world of misfit audio devices

It works but it does eject the disc without assistance .

The Sony MDS JE-510 is a mid-line Sony item that was manufactured in the early-to-mid 1990's; production was discontinued by 1997. It originally retailed for approximately $150.00. This model has some unusual characteristics that cause me to write this review so that you know what you're buying ... the most common problem with this machine ( and - believe me when I say this because I've owned nine ( 9 ) of these units! ) is it's awful penchant for jamming at the eject mechanism. Once the eject mechanism jams, the unit is rendered worthless; as, it cannot be repaired. There are no parts available from the manufacturer and no one knows how to affect a repair if you did have a replacement mechanism. The only way to remove the jammed mini-disc is to dismantle the machine and physically tear open the eject mechanism to remove the jammed mini-disc. Having done this on numerous occasions,I can safely say that the problem boils down to a cheaply-made mechanism that's designed to fail, eventually. It also has a tendancy to erase mini-discs that have not been "protected" by the slide mechanism on the mini-disc having been set to the "lockout" position, causing you to lose all the data on that mini-disc. Since there are no new units available from the manufacturer, you are left to scour the internet for used units. Be aware: if the listing for a used unit tells you that the unit makes a "funny noise" when a mini-disc is inserted into the mini-disc unit, then you are looking at a unit with a damaged eject mechanism that will soon fail completely, leaving you with the problem noted, above. Do not purchase such a unit; you are buying a imminent problem. The unit suffers from poorly-manufactured input jacks on the back of the unit, also; the input jacks are not soldered sufficiently and come loose, causing the unit to drop "record" signal. Although repairable, the cost is prohibitive unless you wish to affect the repair yourself. I've had units that have lasted for several years - I've had units that lasted only a few months before they became irreperably damaged. See if you can find a higher quality unit ( you'll have to determine what "higher quality" units are available - I have no recommendations - ) if you wish to continue with a mini-disc sytem. Be advised that the mini-disc player / recorder is not manufactured by any manufacturers any more; and, that all you'll find are "used" units. The incidence of someone selling a "new" unit is VERY rare ... ... and, EXTREMELY expensive! 'Sure hope this helps you!

I thought it was a newer model with the key changing facility as the price was high. I needed a good quality piece of equipment though as mine had broken down. Fast delivery and nicely packed.

Leider hatte dieses Produkt nicht un meinen Erwartungen gepasst ,leider funcksonierte es nicht ,das ist schade ,und wenn ich lesse ,es ist sehr gut der zustand ,verstehe ich was anderes ,ich weiss für diesen preis stelle ich keine grossen Erwartungen , dann sollte Mann auch ehrlich schreiben ,weil der zustand ist nicht ,sehr gut ,weil er nicht so funcksonier wie er sollte .
