Can you cook French fries with this?

This is a single burner heating device. You can place almost any size pot or frying pan on it & will get good results. Therefore, if you place a frying pan on it, put cooking oil in it, & place the raw french fries in the pan, selecting medium to high heat (has temperature dial), you should get excellent french fries. You may want to cover the pan to prevent the smoke from filling the room.

What is the diameter of the heating coil, and can you unplug the coil completely to clean the dish underneath?

I’m not home at the moment but the size is similar to the smallest element on an electric stove. No- you CANNOT unplug the coil to clean underneath. It does lift a bit to clean under
