Should I insert the dip tube until the tip touch the bottom of the tank and go up may be three inches? Thanks in advanced.

First and foremost I AM NOT A PLUMBER ...that being said, I copied the dip tube I removed from the tank. My original dip tube was sealed at the bottom and had several holes drillled in the side so I cut slots and used a heat gun to seal the bottom and then drilled similar holes in tube. I can only imagine it was designed this way as to NOT stir sediment on the bottom of the tank...that's all I got

Does the nipple have threads on both sides? One to attach to water one to attach to water heater! Are they one inck threads?

Yes, the nipple had threads on both ends. It threads into the tank, and there’s are threads on the top to connect to the supply/outlet. I do not remember the exact diameter or thread pattern, but it matched the tank and existing plumbing
