Young Adult novel that appealed to an adult!
I pre-read this book as a possibility for my teenage son and found it very good myself! It has a plot that captured my imagination and kept me interested (even as an adult reader), and I thought the values/morals of the two main characters were really good (which is nice to see in young adult fiction).

A Delightful Debut With Non-Stop Action
An exciting coming-of-age adventure novel for kids of all ages in the tradition of James Fenimore Cooper, Robert Louis Stevenson and J.R.R. Tolkien. Fast-paced prose helps develop an ensemble of characters through believable dialogue. The setting could be a mythical land or might be very much like your own place of birth in prehistoric times, where young heroes start their arduous journey as children and return after many brushes with death, forever changed and enriched. There are lots of tidbits of anthropology seamlessly intertwined that make this book suitable for the classroom. The story starts quickly and never stops as it builds through twists and turns to an exciting climax, all the while building interpersonal relationships and never losing sympathy for any character good or bad. Highly recommended.

Great Read!
A very exciting read with nonstop action! This book does a great job of combining history with current ideas and themes. Great for middle-grade readers. I will be recommending this to my reluctant boy readers, and I can't wait to get my hands on book 2.

Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn Meet the Stone Age
In this Middle Grade adventure, two boys (one 12, one 13) are charged by their Stone Age tribe with a mission no child should ever have to face. Not only do the boys accept the challenge, they embrace their task with a youthful vigor that ends up being the key to their success. Their own ignorance allows them to take risks that "more informed" adult warriors wouldn't dare consider. Their short-sighted but creative problem solving keeps the two moving forward in their journey, despite their constantly changing goals. Tioga and Kopi remain true to their own strengths, weaknesses, fears, and desires throughout the book; and readers will fall in love with both characters as they grow up on the pages of Ghost Warriors. If Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were thrown into a Stone Age setting, they'd become Tioga and Kopi and intrigue readers with their unique approach to a dangerous world that neither fully understands. While Tioga and Kopi draw the reader forward with a "you can do it" attitude, Tippins' deep knowledge of Stone Age life shines through without overpowering a truly wonderful adventure story. The prose is quick, concise, and crafted with a precision that will have you at the final battle before you know it. Fans of any Middle Grade outdoor adventure (regardless of age) will love Ghost Warriors and anxiously await the sequel.

A Thrilling Adventure in The Hunter-Gatherer Era
Teetering between childhood and adolescence, friends Tioga and Kopi go on an adventurous quest to rescue young Hannah from an ancient tribal chief known for his brutality. The boys experience dangerous forces of nature, their own fears, insecurities and supernatural beliefs along with thrills around each bend. This is a page-turner for any young reader, yet even as an adult I was riveted to their escapades, ingenuity, and growth into brave young men. Looking forward to the next book in the series, and will recommend it to the schools Librarians in my area.

A fun read
I highly recommend this book. It is a captivating adventure from beginning to end with clever twists, suspense, interesting characters, and human connections. Along the way, the reader gains insight into the survival skills, hardships, spirituality, tribal dynamics, and everyday life associated with the Stone Age. Look forward to the next one in the series.
