Enjoyed every word and there is so much to meditate on. If you listen through Audible or have the physical book, you'll find there are over a dozen pages in the back of the book, and these are also great. It's a quick read if you want, but I recommend reading one chapter a day and think on that chapter throughout your day. Review: Amazing book - This book has helped to have deeper conversations with God. To tell Him about every negative and positive feeling and to have complete trust in Him. He is my Father in Heaven and one whom I can converse openly and freely and receive guidance.

Very practical
Very practical and well thought out. Easy read but full of wisdom. I'm not fully there on my spiritual journey but this helped me to plot out my paths in many practical ways. We shall see how God will lead me.

Beautiful guide to making God your best friend! Comment to neg reviewers...
This booklet is outstanding for helping one in continuously walking and talking with God. I have read it multiple times and have listened to it many more. I highly recommend One reviewer unjustly have this book 1 star, claiming that it doesn't say you can't be intimate with a God unless you leave sin behind. I recommend you read this book for yourself. St Alphonsus repeatedly says that to be friends with God you must unite your will with His, desire what He desires, and love what He loves. He trusts it so much, how can i quote it all here? To say otherwise is utterly absurd! E.g. "every action with God and for God" "Such is God will and such wish is mine!" "If you fall into sin, humble yourself at once and rise again with a fervent act of love. " "Help me, O Lord; do not leave me in my own hands. " These are just a few of the quotes from this little booklet add there are many more. These are not the words of someone who says you can 'enjoy' sin all you want and somehow have Ann intimate friendship with God. I don't know how that reviewer concluded anything do absurd... It's almost as if they searched it for keywords and not finding the exact words/phrases they were looking for came to their false conclusions. Their review also claimed that it is not possible or scriptural to have an intimate relationship and repent of one's sin. Know thy self! As Scripture says "Even the just man sins 7 times a day"... Does that mean the just man won't repent after each sin? The just man absolutely will repent 7 or 70x7 times/day if necessary, otherwise he wouldn't be just! Ps.50 is all about a soul who loves God and is repenting of his (grevious) sin! One who thinks they follow Jesus in this life but thinks they have no faults makes me think they don't know themselves, think way too highly of themselves, or don't know all of Christ's teachings very well. God made it so that we can strive after Him our whole life long (or a hundred lifetimes) and never stop learning better how to know/love/serve Him and continuously work to overcome our weak fallen human nature. Thankfully God gave Himself, His Church and teachers, and prayer to continually bombard Him and begging Him for the graces we need. Interestingly, some of the scriptural verses the reviewer quoted reinforced that we should repent after sin (particularly Galatians). St Alphonsus would be the first to tell us never to commit a deliberate sin (as opposed to a sin of weekness) as God who promises mercy to those who repent has not promised to give the graces to repent forever! If we ignore the graces God mercifully send us now, then God will gradually withdrawal His graces from us (which is what Scripture tells us God did to pharaoh when it says God 'hardened his heart'). St Alphonsus has also said a sinful and prayerful life are incompatible with each other. Eventually, the soul will leave sin (i.e. leave mortal sins and deliberate venial sins), or the soul will leave off prayer. But if we truely know ourselves and we examine ourselves we will find a thousand faults we commit in a day... But to one who truely loves God, none will be grevious nor will they be venial deliberate sins (meaning I know it's wrong but it's little so i don't mind and will keep doing it... No! The only evil in the world greater than a venial sin is a mortal sin! Oh God, delivery us from all deliberate sins, be they 'small' or 'large'! Let us say with St Alphonsus, "I resolve for the future rather to die than to consent to anything that may give Thee the slightest displeasure!"

I never knew the pre-conciliar church had such tender writings on cultivating afriendship with Jesus
St. Alphonsus shocked me with his beautiful and sincere reflections on the most intimate fears and hopes we all experience; and delighted me with a detailed explanation of how we are to invite Jesus into even these parts of our hearts. If you, like I, have read St. Alphonsus before and relegated him to the category of the staunch and stoic saints... You will be shocked and delighted too.

What is there NOT to love about this little book? I own several books by Saint Alphonsus Liguori as he's 1 of my most favourite saints and doctors of the Church. This little book goes EVERYWHERE with me and I mean, everywhere!! I'm the years to come, it'll be so worn out from daily use. The short aspirations and prayers at the end are also wonderful. They most certainly can be used in a moment of placing oneself in God's Presence. Since converting to Catholicism from Pentecostalism, Saint Alphonsus Liguori is 1 saint that I devour and I know that this particular book will be a good companion in the years to come. I strongly recommend this books to both Catholics and Protestants alike. To my Protestant friends, please don't be afraid to read anything by Liguori.

This book is a short treatise, but describes a relationship with god that many may not expect of a Catholic doctor of the church. But ligori was one of the most gifted minds the church ever saw, combined with a simple and deep piety. Great book, best 4 dollars you could spend.
