My unit has never read anything other than zero. even when placing right at my exhaust pipe. it must be faulty. can i get a replacement?

Funny, both of my devices also show zero when I check the CO level.

will this stand alone and work or does it need to be attached to mounting bracket to work ?

Instructions say it gets turned on when placed in the mounting bracket. Unit arrives turned off.

At what level ppm (parts per million) does this detect carbon monoxide and sound an alarm and how long does it have to detect it to trigger the alarm?

The best way to test the questionable device would be to place the item in a large zip lock back to seal exhaust fumes from your vehicle inside the bag !before the tailpipe has gotten hot! to avoid melting the bag, of course. I value my health and my family’s health, so I want to know if the level is anything above 0ppm so I can be proactive about finding and fixing the problem before it is too late. Rather than an “alarm” which offers minimal protection, you may want to look at what protection a “low level monitor” can provide for you. Basically, if an alarm beeps, that indicates the level has become high enough for so long that you may already have high levels in your blood and may need to leave your home immediately even if you are in your night gown, depending on the accuracy, and most importantly the time frame before the device will even beep. It will only beep if a certain time has elapsed at high levels. If the device sounded sooner than the designed time delay, the device would be considered “faulty” even if it offered better protection. This means even after a beep, you could already have been exposed to high levels of CO depending on the product design. A low level monitor can have much better resolution, and much lower ppm audibles at levels like 9ppm which is considered by most to be the lowest “healthy” allowable 8 hour exposure level. Researching and testing is the only way you will ever know the truth. Have your own standards; Don’t just except other’s standards as your own.
