How big is the part that goes through the whole under the plate?

This is always very confusing and I don't know why in world this measurement is not included in specification for faucets. This faucets requires a 1 1/2 inch hole but the standard faucet hole size for sinks is 1 3/8 (1/8 inch smaller). However many sinks and sink tops come in different hole sizes. Again the spec published at places like Lowes don't include those sizes in specs for the sinks. The hole in my sink top was large enough for the faucet to fit through it. I will add one comment about the faucet. It looks great and has worked great since I installed it, but recently it has become a little stiff in its opeation. I plan to remove the handle and see if a little silicone grease will solve the problem. All things considered I still believe it to be a good deal.
