Worked great to replace an ambient light in my mk7 Gti door sill

I needed a tiny yet bright fiber optic led top to add some lighting to my proton pack from haslab. This was perfect for my needs. Thin so I can feed it through clear tubing and bright. But be warned, the farther the tubing goes the dimmer it gets. For my needs, that wasn't a factor as I think I only needed 3ft. Rigged it do it's getting power from a usb battery pack and bam. Got some led mods on my pack. I will be buying more to create a streams for the neutrona wand next!

With a little time and effort; you can really do a lot with this PMMA fiber optic. I'm using mine specifically with RC cars; this was the largest diameter I could find for making miniature light whips. The included LED is very bright; but I noticed (upon disassembly) that it included a small lens that you would assume would make the led more focused. I tested the transmission of light through the cable with and without the lens, and personally I think it is brighter without the small lens installed. Great value for what it is; the outer shield of the pmma cable is mildly separated in some parts, but nothing you will notice unless you look very closely.

The tube had bubbles in it that greatly defuse the light perventing you from use the full lenght of tube. Forgive me i dont know tje techical name

This 3mm side glow cable was just the right size. It is brighter and costs less than the side glow cable I have bought in the past. The 1.5W illuminator lights it up great. I upgraded to a 3W illuminator and it looked amazing. It's all about the light source. Any bad reviews are because they did not use a proper light source. If you're looking for a comparison between this and el wire I would definitely go with side glow. It's superior in every way. It's brighter, more durable and comes in any color you want. This is a nice side glow fiber optic strand. As you can see, the white one emits a cool bluish white light. The end, of course, emits the whiter light of the LED. Every side glow fiber optic acts as a light pipe as well. I intend to shorten mine and embed it in clear resin. I'm looking forward to it!

The intended use was to light up the cup holders in my car. That was going to be a tedious job so I tested it first. I wired the light to a 12volt 1.5watt transformer. Only the first 3 feet of the fiber cable lit up. I played with it, but there isn't much you can do as far as adjustments go. Okay, maybe the transformer is on the fritz. I took it outside and hooked it to my car battery. 3 feet of cable lit up. I went in the house, logged on to Amazon and set up a return. Maybe the one I got was defective, but I'm not going to take a chance and will be getting something else to light the cup holders.
