I bought this as a backup to my cordless gear, and recently used it to mix mortar, then grout. It had a ton of power, and scoffed at the challenge. The CME/Harvest chuck on it seems good, though probably not of the precision that a Jacobs can offer. Still, this is a very good tool for well under a hundred bucks. The trigger can be a little sensitive, but there seems to be three ranges of speed, and it works well. I'm very pleased overall. Edit: Just wanted to check back in to say that this little beast has dealt with everything I can throw at it, and it hasn't even whimpered. Just a great tool at an amazing price. While I probably would have ponied up for the 650RPM unit with higher torque, they didn't offer that model at the time I purchased it. Great nonetheless.

Excellent, powerful drill
I just got this drill and used it to secure some oak planking on a bridge we are building. The drill had plenty of power to sink 4" lag screws through the 2" thick oak planks (after drilling pilot holes, of course) and into the underlying structure. An older Craftsman drill that another guy had couldn't even get the screws started into the hard oak planks. The removable side handle is a must in situations where you need a lot of torque. I let someone else try to use this drill and the first time it spun itself right out of their hands. The grip is very comfortable with just a little bit of rubber to help prevent slipping and I really like the two finger trigger. As another reviewer mentioned, the brake works well and the drill stops quickly. Overall an excellent drill, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Nice, Heavy
This unit has tons of power and torque for many uses. It's not lightweight can cause some fatigue, but it's a monster for many uses. Don't worry about dead batteries, just plug it in. Recommended.

Amateur driller, still love this drill.
I don't do a lot of drilling, and I am by no means experienced at it. Most of my drills in the past have been battery powered. My mose recent being a lithium ion battery powered drill I purchased at costco. I love that drill as well, it just doesn't have the power to get threw some metal sheets I was playing with. This drill is quite large and quite heavy duty, it comes with a handle you can screw in to either side for added stability on heavier jobs, utilizing a 1/2 drill bit. It is likely I overshot, and did not need a 1/2 drill. But I figure it only takes needing a 1/2 bit once, and I will be glad i purchased it. Other than the size, this drill works great. It comes with a key for the chuck that attaches to the power cord. My only complain is that the key is attached by a flimsy rubber attachment, that is long and doesn't seem like it would last very long. Because of the length of this key holder, it also tends to get in the way. Break feature is nice, not sure it is anything I would ever use....but I am sure people out there using this drill heavily all the time probably love it.

Good Value
I have several Hitachi tools and all are great. This drill is no exception. Very quality product for a good price. I first purchased an equivalent Kobalt drill. The gears were stripped out of the box. I then was going to buy a Rigid, but the price jumped up $20 the day I went to buy it. I found this for a better price on closeout here as the name changed on the new ones. I use the drill to mix thinset. I only mix 10lbs at a time. I know, I know, I should use a thinset mixer, but they are expensive and I wanted something I could use for other purposes after. I am able to use this at a very low speed and it does not bog down at all. I mix for 5 minutes, let set for 10, and then mix for another 3. This drill does it with no issues. I could probably do more than 10 lbs with it, but I do not need to use more than that at one time. Very happy I purchased.

It is an Old model
I got this and it is a very heavy drill. I didn't realize how heavy it would be, but goodness you'll need both hands to get jobs done, not very convient. I was disappointed to find it was damaged around the metal housing where it meets the plastic. Also, this is an old model, the box looks like something from 10 years ago and it's a hard green case that is rather bulky. I think it's a good drill for those that won't need to use just one hand, it is very heavy and even comes with an side handle (not pictured at the time of order). It does come with a nice sturdy sold chuck. Overall good for those with heavy duty needs, not for small home projects. I recommend only if you meets your heavy duty needs. Cheers and Vidimo Se!
