It took my kids a little bit to learn it, but once they did, they loved it! My kids accidentally threw away some of the pieces, and the company sent me new ones even though it was our fault. Great game! I LOVE Bombat games, and I highly recommend playing it with your family!

The good: Three games in one. Adventure and imagination! In game 1, you get to play as the pirate, racing other pirates around the world! Given that pirates are always getting in trouble, the land lovers are naturally trying to stop your race, blasting rifles and cannons! Look out for scary sharks and octopus, and don't get stuck on the reef or you'll lose a turn! Risk the dangerous shortcuts or take the safer, longer routes. Game 2 encourages higher level thinking. It's fun to collect the animals and also the option of taking the risky whirlpools (a portal to other areas of the board at random) either helps you win or can also set you back big time. Game 3 I don't recommend because the person playing as "Patrol" always wins.The bad: Cheap board- my 4 yo daughter might break the board trying to lay it out. 1 Broken piece- sail on one ship already needs to be super glued back on. Unfair advantage to "The Patrol" in game 3, and always wins. I don't suggest playing game 3. In general, the game encourages violence with shooting guns and cannons in game 1 (which is intended for our youngest players!). The goal of Zoo Regatta is to collect and remove innocent animals from their natural home in the world and relocating them to your country if origin. If your opponent comes close to you during the game, they can throw a bomb and kill one of your captured animals on your ship so you'll have to go get another one to win the game.

Two games in one box. One, a dice based “Chutes and Ladders” type race to the finish. The other, a strategy “collect the endangered animals from their homes and Amistad them back to your zoo” game.Both seem to work well for younger and older kids to play together at the same time. Easy concepts, but new presentation so it’s not boring.Contains a reversible board, cardboard tokens, a die, and some little plastic ships. Our box also teaches a little Russian, as the sides seem to be printed in Cyrillic. Overall, it’s pretty simplistic for the price, but the kids are playing with it together.
