Optimum setup for your light/medium DSLR
I originally purchased the Spider Holster Single Camera Pro belt. It was sturdy, well made, and I almost kept it. But it is also kind of bulky and overkill for my "prosumer" set up. So I returned it and decided to try this one instead. The black widow is lighter weight and packs smaller, if you are concerned with putting it in your luggage for a trip. Its not going to last 10 years like the pro model but it should be good for 3-5 years of abuse. The belt has no buckle - just a long heavy duty velcro overlap that holds it together. It is also thinner material than the pro model. This leads to maximum comfort - no buckle or hard parts to press against your waist/hips and its wide enough to feel really good. The Black Widow is for cameras up to about 3 pounds. My Nikon D90 DSLR with 18-105 lens weighs 2 lb. 10 oz. I purchased the thin-plate tripod adaptor. This allowed me to use my Monfroto quick release tripod and it also placed the Black Widow pin in a location that allows the camera to rest perfectly on the holster with the lens naturally facing backward and the body rests squarely against your body (see photos of the pro holster to see how this position works). Note that the entire setup with the thin place adaptor is strictly for right side mounting. If you want to use this on your left side, its not going to work nearly as well. The strap for securing the lens is pretty awkward to use and unnecessary, especially if you get the thin plate adaptor. Overall the whole setup is very comfortable and secure with fast easy access to the camera.

It is a keeper!
I purchased this to accommodate my Olympus EM5-II camera. I use my own belt with cargo pants and just the holster and it works great! It's awesome! The camera is always ready and easier to access than a case. I also purchased at the same time for vacation as a backup plan, a quick access shoulder strap that holds the camera in a similar quick access fashion using a threaded insert to the tripod threaded hole (just in case I didn't like this holder on vacation), and basically the clip slides up and down the belt for easy access...so to compare,.... I must say that the advantage of the holster over the strap is that the camera does not slide all over the place when you move around or sit down. It is always snug against me and one feels secure that the camera is not banging around. While secure, the ball attachment rotates the camera conveniently to conform to your body when you sit down without it bouncing all over the place like a strap product hitting a chair or wall etc.... I found I could easily board an airplane, pulled it out for the takeoff and a few pics of flying over Cuba :), and placed it back down on my lap and secured it in an instant. I found myself always putting camera back to holster whether sitting or standing because it was so convenient and comfortable, so I didn't' run the risk of setting it down and walking off without it just because I didn't want to go through the hassle of moving it in and out of my camera pack each time I wanted to use it. The red release could have been aluminum, but I found it was perfectly fine, no problems there and I deal in manufactured items and part engineering as a profession. The belt and padded thing I did not use: those I could see it convenient if instead of cargo pants with a belt you were in say a bathing suit type attire without a belt. I used this for my Olympus E-M5II and it was perfect. I also own a Nikon 810 DSLR and I believe this too light of a product to trust with it.(But spiderholster makes a heavier version for these type of cameras and this is not really designed for the pro-type rig). And, as a side note, I did not have any neck strap at all attached to the camera as backup to the holster or anything, I felt very secure with it holding my camera on it's own, very well made, always comfortable, camera always ready but never in the way like straps can be sometimes.... I love it!

Nice fit
Really fits nice and being a bigger fella it is comfortable around the waist. Allow you to release very quickly haven't missed a shot yet.

Wonderful for Fujifilm X100(S) as well as Pentax K-5. Declare your freedom from shoulder straps!
I am not a fan of shoulder straps. My favorite, which I use for my Pentax K-5 with 18-250 zoom, is the BlackRapids. Still, I longed for years for a holster which clipped to my belt, and had a latching mechanism with a quick release for rapid positioning of a shot. When I purchased the Fuji X100 I first got the smaller Blackrapids strap. Then I tried some of the cheaper holster belts which felt flimsy and which required pressure to release the camera. It was anything but smooth, eventually taking so much time that the shot might be lost. The Spiderholster Black Widow kit works perfectly, and for the X100 it is light enough so that I can use my own belt, without the included pad. It is fabulous for street photography, though I recommend a half case to protect the camera as it bounceson your thigh. Walking through Manhattan without a strap, hands free, and yet able to position myself for a shot in 2 seconds was amazing! The strap that comes with the kit works for small dSLRs, and it is best to use the pad as well. Freedom from straps is here!!

Velcro strap ripped after one use!
That velcro strap that holds onto your lens ripped from just walking around the house, trying it out! Yeah, it still technically works without it, but C'MON! I'm going with the Peak Design Capture Clip because it works both on your backpack and belt, and it's Arca-Swiss so it goes right onto the tripod!

good in theory but filled with compromise
This thing works but I feel I had to compromise to much to get this thing to work. First off you need to feel a belt through the belt clip so if your belt is to big your out of luck. Also the pin in the bottom sticks out a decent amount and will get in the way a lot. setting your camera down impossible. Also in order to use a striped mount you need to take it off or you need to buy another accessory to make it work. The list goes on. This thing is good for people who like a brand name and are willing to compromise on its account. I feel like there are better options out there. I give it three stars because it works and will work for some people and it is a well made sturdy product, but not for me. I returned shortly after purchase and decided on going with peak designs.

Great holster. takes 2 hands to remove camera from lock, providing great security. i have tried the holster on a standard jeans belt and on the additional black widow belt and must say that i'm glad i got the additional belt. It's more comfortable and allows for a little bit of movement so you can twist the belt to get access to pockets etc, you can also beter control the tightness of the belt and the hang of the camera. Using the holster direct on a normal belt is convenient but can pull trousers/shorts etc down on one side and may restrict access to pocket due to possitioning. The hidden additional security you get is also that as the camera and holster cover your pocket you have the added security against pick pockets. I recently when to Barcelona and used the full kit each day. In that hot weather I started feeling sorry for the other hundereds of camara users wearing the sholder straps, rubbing on necks, resulting sun burn stripes and having to be constantly held in possition. I could just holster the camera and carry on hands free. I also have a cheap hand strap that I use with the camara and holster. this is fine with the holster nut and causes not issues and propvides another additional convenience.
