前車である、2011年式PoloGTI(6RCAV)を3月に自損事故で全損。車高調整キットを組み込んでいたこともあり、正に痛恨の極み。 2018年4月にはフルモデルチェンジが予定されていたため、慌ててディーラーに探してもらい、最終モデルの最終在庫のGTI、6RDAJ(6C)を滑り込みで購入した。 一番面食らったのが、6Cに採用されていた、可変式ショックアブソーバー。ノーマルモードは、それなりのセッティングではあったが、スポーツモードでは細かい振動を拾い過ぎ、街中では全く使う気になれず、どうしたものかと悩んでいた。車高についても余りに高過ぎて、ノーズの入りが悪い。しかしながら、通算走行距離が1,500K m程でいきなり車高調整キットを組み込むのは余りに時期尚早。そこで思いついたのが、スプリングのみの交換。 ブランドは、以前に使用したこともあり、好印象であった、アイバッハ しか考えられなかった。 いざ商品が届いてみると、相変わらず丁寧なフィニシングで、スプリング自体が純正よりもかなり軽いバネ鋼が使用されており、良質な素材を用いていることは明らか。 行きつけのショップで組み込んでもらい、試走。ノーマルモードでこそバネ感が強いものの、スポーツモードではまるでキット交換したかと錯覚するほどの、丁度良いスプリングレートで、街中でも違和感なし。また、約30㎜の重心高ダウンでノーズの入りが大幅に改善。 やはりアイバッハ はユーザーを裏切らない。やっぱり、良いメーカーだ。
