Very happy with this pet door overall. It was easy to install, the instructions were simple to follow, and everything fit together well. The quality feels solid and durable, especially for the price. After installation, it worked exactly as expected and my pet adjusted to it quickly. I also like that it looks clean and blends in nicely with the door. Definitely recommend if you want an affordable and straightforward pet door that does the job well.

We have 7 dogs and they range from 20 pounds to around 110 pounds. They all come through the door just fine. Even the 110 pounder has lots of extra room to fit through. I have installed many doggy doors throughout my house and in both of my outside doors. This certain doggy door is great for an inside door. For outside doors, I use weatherproof doggy doors. The flaps are heavier and most normal winds will not blow them open. To install the door, I did the following: Remove the door from the door frame and lay it on saw horses or whatever you have to work on. It needs to be at least a foot off the ground to complete the install. Mine was about 3’ off the ground. This keeps you from having to bend over so far to work on it 1. I measured the height of my largest dog standing at her shoulders, then added 2” to give a little extra clearance. I took a pencil and made a light straight line across the door at that point. 2. Next, I measured the width of the door and marked the center from the top line down to the bottom of the door. 3. Next, I laid out the stencil, that comes with doggy door, and lined the center arrows up with the center line on the door and the top of the stencil with the top line I made going across the door. I held the stencil in place with some masking tape. 4 little pieces will do the trick. 4. Next, I traced around the stencil with a black sharpie. This makes it easier to see where to cut the door out. Don’t worry about the black lines, what’s left of them will be hid by the frame of the doggy door. Remove the stencil when done. 5. Next, I used a 1/2” drill bit and drilled a hole inside each of the corners of my lines, getting as close to the corner lines as I could. 6. Next, I used a jigsaw and cut out the hole for the door. Stay on the lines as best as you can and make sure the foot of the jigsaw is flat so your cut will be straight through to the other side. When I got both sides and the bottom cut, I used a screwdriver to hold the bottom of the piece I was cutting out so it didn’t fall when I cut the top. If it falls before the cut is finished, it could break off a piece of the main door. That will make it look bad with a chunk missing out of the main door when you are finished. 7. Next, measure the thickness of the main door and write it down. Add 7/8” to that measurement. My door thickness was 1 3/8”. I added 7/8” to that and got 2 1/4”. That is how wide I cut the plastic spacer pieces that went between the frames of the doggy door. Try to be as accurate as possible with this. I used a utility knife to cut the spacers. Take your time so you can make straight cuts. Make several cuts on the same line, then fold it over and it will break apart on the cut line. 8. Slide the plastic pieces into the slots of the front frame section. Push them in tight. Set the frame in the cutout section of the main door. Then, install the back frame section by lining up the plastic spacer pieces with the frame slots and hold them tightly together. My wife helped me with this part by holding the frames together as I installed the plastic screws and nuts in the frames. I put the top center one in first, followed by the bottom center one. Slightly tighten these 2 but not too tight, you may have to adjust the frame position. After that, she didn’t have to hold it any more. I installed the rest of the screws and nuts. After making sure I had the frame squarely adjusted, I tightened the screws and nuts. 9. With a pair of wire cutters, cut off the excess of the plastic screws. Next, I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to grind the rest of the screw down flush so the dogs wouldn’t scratch themselves on them. 10. Clean the sawdust off the door and install it back on the door frame that you removed it from.

Gonna go with 4 stars. So my door is a paneled door. First issue was I purchased a large and cut the template to large size. However when I go to put doggie door in the opening is too big??? Maybe that was my bad but I know it was cut to the template large size. Regardless had to then reframe with some 1x2's to get doggie door to fit. The supplied spacers also then had to be cut at angles secondary to the panels. After a few hours I was finally able to get door installed with some ingenuity. Looks good and works fine. However, I suggest putting the doggie door opening on the template to make sure the template is correct!! Also you will be good if your door is flat

This door is great for large dogs, but WOW! is it big. Took nearly a quarter of our back door. The installation on the pet door wasn’t too difficult, though it can be a pain to get the screws through both sides of the frame. Would have been nice if the screws had been stainless steel or brass instead of nylon as well. But not too bad. The instructions and template for the pet door cut out were good. You will definitely want to use sawhorses or something similar. This pet door is much bigger than we expected, but that is on us. When cutting the door you are installing the pet door in, be sure to use a long jigsaw blade, if using a jigsaw. Ours wasn’t quiet long enough and made for difficult cutting on the door. The sheet metal kept bending, the cut on the bottom side didn’t match the top and the short blade hitting the bottom side made the metal separate from the core. Annoying but fixable. Will know better next time. Overall, the pet door seems of good quality and our dogs love the larger opening to go in and out of. The cat took longer to get use to it. But she is good with it now. The cover to close the door can be a bit of a pain at first. You really need to smack the two sides to get the click of them snapping in. And, taking the cover off is a lot louder than the sliding door we had on the smaller pet door previously. Also, be aware, since the flap is frosted, if your dogs are used to charging in through the door, it isn’t going to give. 😁 Our biggest boxer did it a couple times and now is a bit more cautious coming in. It’s funny to see him on the outside obviously pondering if the door is closed or not.

Works as it should we should have got larger size for shepherd but door hinge limited

We put it in our metal front door. Large enough with room to spare for the 18 month old 75 lb German. We already have a PetSafe patio door insert in the back of the house. But i wanted one in the front too so they wouldn't use the upper deck stairs all the time to get to the fenced in yard. I worry about wear and tear on their joints. The cats find it easy to get in and out. Shepherd to get through. -With the template in place, tack a small nail in each corner, then remove the template leaving nails in place, and use a straight edge ruler butted up against the nails to draw your lines with a permanent marker -Adding 7/8's of an inch to the door is accurate, don't try to over think it. -Threading the plastic bolts can be made easier if you flex the outside frame so you can see where the hole is. If you can't do the bolt, leave it, do the next and then come back The phillips head on the bolt strips very easily -Get all the bolts in place then start snugging them up -On installation, check how the flap meets the magnet and if there is a gap, rotate the top of the pet door towards the gap until it is aligned -Buy a fresh saw blade for the door type, wood or metal -You should only need two drill holes top left and bottom right and working away from the holes -They don't give you much framework to hide mistakes, so be careful -I will be using weatherproof caulking -The hardest part for me was threading the bolts, one side to another. Difficulty level is 4/10

Good fit easy install

This is not my first pet door. I spent a lot more for my last pet door which I found easy to install & it lasted for years. When the flexible plastic door flap on my old one gave out, I found that they no longer made a replacement for it. So, when shopping for a new pet door I wanted to buy a brand that has been around for a while & sold moderately priced replacement door flaps. I found the Pet Safe pet door fit my criteria and was also low priced. I definitely think I got what I paid for and that it is a fair product but I have several serious issues with it. My first issue with the product was that the "spacers" are hard to line up when trying to install & match them up with the opposite frame. This took up a lot of time and was very aggravating. My last (but more expensive) pet door came with the spacer molded to the door frame and slipped right into the hole cut into door, then lined up perfectly with the outer door frame. I also feel the spacers, which are suppose to act as weather shielding too, are not adequate to keep moisture out so I am going to use some silicone sealant on the outside frame. Better safe that sorry! My second issue was that the very long, and very thin bolts (thickness is about 1/8-3/16in.) that hold the door frames together are made of plastic and the nuts are metal. Plastic bolt threads not only strip easily, they are also easily "mis-threaded" when used with metal nuts. I also am very concerned that these very thin bolts will easily snap. My last issue is that my last pet door had a metal door that could be placed into the frame and locked for security or in bad weather. The Pet Safe door has a plastic "cover" that fits over the inner frame but there is no way to secure it so it can just be easily pushed off from the outside. I live in the woods and frequently have furry woodland visitors such as opossum and raccoons. It's been my experience that both of these creatures are intelligent enough to watch my dogs use the door and then push the cover off and wander inside. I am working on a way to secure the door easily but would not recommend this pet door to anyone who would find an unsecured pet door a problem. If you are buying a large size door, this one could allow a person to enter your home with little difficultly. In all fairness, I do feel this pet door is equal to the cost and pet door prices can run very high.

Good quality. A bit noisy. Easy to install. Medium is the perfect size for my Yorkie/Maltese mixes. Would probably also suit a dachshund and Jack Russell.
