I don't think there's really a way around that, it just shows that this sort of thing doesn't last for ever.There are two small annoyances with this feeder though (as with the last one)...1. A feeder like this, hung from a single point and with chains suspending it is not particularly stable.It's fine for anything landing on it and smaller birds up to around the size of a blackbird never have any issues leaving it, it's the pigeons which cause an issue. Whenever they are startled and fly off all of a sudden, this feeder will swing a lot and dump a load of seed on the floor.The blackbirds and tits don't mind that, but I was pretty annoyed.I was able to address it by detaching the chains from the single ring at the top and suspending the feeder from three locations instead of one. It still swings to a degree, but it's much more stable when the pigeons disembark.2. The attachment clips are not at all strong. At the end of each of the chains are a clip to allow you to take the feeder down while leaving the chains in the tree. On both this and it's predecessor, these clips have bent open, again dumping seed on the floor.This is easily sorted either by folding the clips flat or removing them altogether and just having the chains permanently connected to the feeder.So it's not perfect, but it's one of the best I've found so far. With the couple of small alterations, it performs well and the wooden appearance fits well in our tree.Given how much it'll cost to replace the mesh when this one eventually breaks, I'll probably end up buying the same thing again next time! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Best birdfeeder I've ever had *by A***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2019* This is a replacement for the last one (the same)- after many years of service the top layer of wire eventually wore through with so many birds pecking the food! So have bought 2 more to keep me and the birdies going. It's great for blackbirds and robins and sparrows and all little birds that usually ground feed rather than use hanging seed feeders. Mine is hung under a large acer from lower branches so big birds (pigeons, seagulls, crows) can't get on it. The pair of collared doves do but that's ok. When I had it out in the open the pigeons landed and just tipped the whole thing upside down, so some overhead protection is worthwhile. It means ground feeders can feed without having food on the ground. I put a mix of no-mess bird seed, insect fat pellets and mealworms and they all love it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Catch crumbs to avoid encouraging rats *by M***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2021* I feed the birds all year round and am cautious not to let crumbs drop which would encourage rats so I attach seed catchers to my feeders.
