The hilarious #1 New York Times bestselling classic picture book about a chimpanzee in a very bad mood--perfect for young children learning how to deal with confusing feelings. Jim the chimpanzee is in a terrible mood for no good reason. His friends can't understand it--how can he be in a bad mood when it's SUCH a beautiful day? They have lots of suggestions for how to make him feel better. But Jim can't take all the advice...and has a BIT of a meltdown. Could it be that he just needs a day to feel grumpy? Suzanne and Max Lang bring hilarity and levity to this very important lesson on emotional literacy, demonstrating to kids that they are allowed to feel their feelings. Grumpy Monkey is the first title in a series of books targeted at different ages that encourage kids to feel their feelings. Review: Unique - I bought this board book for my 11-month-old son, and it has been a great addition to our reading routine. The artwork is unique, colorful, and engaging, which really helped keep his attention for most of the story. He may still be a little young for the full message, but he was definitely interested and enjoyed looking at the pages. We read multiple times a day since we don’t use TV, so I appreciate books that last longer than a minute. This one has a bit more substance compared to some shorter board books, which makes reading time feel more meaningful. I also really like the lesson of the story—it teaches children that it’s okay to have feelings and that bad moods can pass. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to parents looking for an engaging story with a positive message. Review: A fun, relatable book for little ones with big feelings - My 3 year old grandson loved this book. The story is cute, funny, and easy for little kids to follow and the illustrations really keep their attention. It is such a good book for talking about feelings in a simple way they can understand. This one has quickly become a favorite and is definitely a great addition to his collection.

A great book that’s a little more involved in the story
Grumpy Monkey ended up being my son’s favorite out of the books we read, which surprised me because he honestly didn’t even want to read it at first. By the end of it he was laughing and completely into the story. I think he related to the monkey a lot because sometimes he gets grumpy for no reason too, and it actually opened up a really cute conversation about feelings and moods. The story is funny, expressive, and really relatable for little kids. Definitely one of those books that both parents and kids end up enjoying together.

A good book for a young child's library!
Love this board book! The little grumpy monkey is like the person who sees the glass half empty instead of half full. A teacher could use this book to discuss grumpiness and other negative moods. As a recently retired teacher, I know a lot of kids have issues going on at home, and this book might describe how a grumpy student may act. The book does not give any advice to get one out of a grumpy state, but might be a springboard for the kids to discuss. Adorable pictures of jungle and various animals. I'd say this book would be good for 2 year olds through 2nd grade.

Grumpy Monkey is a great lesson on how to cope with a bad mood
Grumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang is a wonderful examination of what it feels like to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. This message easily resonates with both parents and children alike, as everyone can relate to a time when they just felt “off” but didn’t really have a justifiable explanation as to why. Max Lang’s vibrant illustrations bring the theme of the story into existence in a way that is inviting and fun. The characters are drawn in a humorous yet unique way, which provides them with personality beyond the descriptions that are provided in the text. There are many moments where the illustrations of the grumpy monkey make us laugh while also making us sympathize with his sour mood. Overall, this is a wonderfully colorful and inviting picture book for parents and children alike. This book gives the reader permission to be grumpy and emphasizes the importance of accepting when our own moods are under the weather. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has children as it invites many important conversations on how to advocate for ourselves when we need time to reset our moods.

Awesome book!
My 2.5 year old son LOVES this book and oh how relatable. He's very particular with books and besides his forever fave "good night moon", this has quickly climbed the favorite ladder. He requests this one every night. Great graphics, cute story. A huge hit around here!
