Great Educational Robot Kit – Fun and Easy Build!
We had a fantastic experience building the ELEGOO robot car kit. The directions were clear, straightforward, and very easy to follow — at no point did we get stuck or confused during assembly. There are many small components included, and while some pieces come with spares and others do not, everything was well organized and fit together smoothly. The build process was actually part of the fun and made it a great hands-on learning experience. Once assembled, the robot performs really well. The controls are responsive whether using the remote or the mobile app, and both options work reliably. Watching it drive around and avoid obstacles is incredibly satisfying! Overall, this is a fun, well-designed kit that’s perfect for beginners and a great educational project for kids and adults alike. Highly recommended!

Easy to assemble & excellent documentation! Great science fair type of project.
I've assembled several robot kits like these but this has got to be the best so far hands-down. Everything about this project is well done from the packaging (components are well labeled in separate boxes & baggies) to the documentation (printed and download). I was able to follow the included printed assembly manual and put the robot together in about an hour. Elegoo has even included three small tools so you won't need to use any of your own unless that's your preference. The included Uno clone is preprogrammed with all of the necessary functionality so all you've got to do is power it on and choose the desired function via the IR remote. You can also download an iOS or Android companion app to control the robot via bluetooth although that's not something I've tried yet so I can't comment on how well it works. Of course, the Arduino software is available from Elegoo's website if you want to experiment with uploading your own sketches. I downloaded the surprisingly large zip file for this product (1 GB) and briefly browsed the multilingual contents. They've done a good job with this documentation as well! The Arduino source code is included by various build/functionality stages and PDFs are included that explain everything in that particular stage. This little car really zips along, too! I haven't tested the line-following function but the obstacle avoidance function works pretty well. It can get stuck in this mode if the car approaches an object at a shallow enough angle which doesn't trigger the ultrasonic distance sensor but waving your hand (or foot) in front of it does the job. Manual drive mode works very well using the included IR remote. TL;DR: Quality of the electronics is fair, hardware is excellent & solid, documentation is really excellent for non-native English speakers. It is actually a bargain for all of the components you get and how well the fit & finish is. My only gripe is how easily fingerprints and dust show up on the piano black acrylic body pieces. That's a minor annoyance, IMHO. If you're on the fence about buying this, you shouldn't be. It's honestly a great robotics project that gives you more than you'd expect for the price. I'll update this review if I encounter any problems but, so far, it's worked well!

Wonderful product as a STEM kit!!!
This Smart Robot was my introduction to Elegoo products and the experience has made me a diehard fan of Elegoo. I bought this for my 9 year old son as a gift for the holidays. This was my attempt to give him gifts would peak his interest enough to get him away from all the games and electric devices and this did the trick. At first when I first opened it I wondered if it was to much for him to assemble but boy was I worng. He enjoyed every moment of it and has not stopped using it. Its so much fun that everyone in the house is enjoying it. It was designed and packaged so well and the instuctions were very easy to follow. Love the care they took and the packaging was neat and well organized. In its default state its packed with features but the intro to Arduino IDE increases its value immensely making it possible to add more components, features and functionality. This has already paid for itself times over and its value for money is undeniable!!

Was easy to build, my 5yo is infatuated with it
It was easy to put together, the instructions could've been more clear I guess. I also ended up with some extra screws that it didn't mention. I was disappointed at first to find that I'd received the cardboard box. I stopped caring once I started building because I realized none of these pieces will ever go back into the box again. I got to the section where you try uploading their code. The first one worked fine and it moved forward a few feet then stopped and looped. I tried uploading the second section and it failed. In fact, everything failed to upload after that first one. I was ready to give up for the moment, but my 5yo was playing with the remote and got it to use the ultrasonic and drive itself around. So I'm not sure what I uploaded or that it worked at all? I didn't think the board had any code on it out of the box, but it must have. One thing that's not great about the ultrasonic is that it can't see stairs. First thing my 5yo did was take it up to his room, it ended up in the hallway and drove down the stairs. It obliterated the gears in the microservo, but was otherwise ok I think. Fortunately I had also bought a mega board kit that had a replacement. I haven't gotten too much into the coding, but it seems pretty straightforward for what it's doing now. I have no idea what it's actually capable of. The point is that it interests my son so much, I want to teach him coding already and I think a physical robot is going to do more at 5 than a website or an application. That alone is worth the price of entry!

Great little project
Bought this to build with my daughter. It was a fun little project and she loves it.... Great time for us. The instructions were very good and it was not overly difficult.

Really nice "beginner" robot kit
SUPER fun kit. Quite easy to assemble if you're are an experienced model builder. If you're new, just make sure to lay out the parts needed for each step, and take your time. IMHO, they need to have a "parts kit" page that shows what pieces/sizes are in each bag, to make it easier to find for each step. The small parts bags are labelled for each section, but I found that you need to cross-over to other bags in some steps. Lots of devices for a "beginner" kit. It includes 4 separately controlled motors for the wheels, a camera, ultrasonic sensor, line-following sensor. There is a servo on the camera/sonic "face" so you can turn it. A few extra parts are included for further experimentation. Works great after assembly, using just the remote. It's pre-loaded with the code that it needs, so there is no programming necessary for it's basic uses. The IOS app is easy to connect and use. Looking forward to programming this beast.

Easy to assemble, and quite a lot of features
Pros: - Quite easy to assemble - Comes with rechargable batteries and power charging management unit included - Has Camera and WiFi - Has both Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers onboard, and both can be programmed - You can program it easily with Arduino IDE and even easier with Visuino - Has a fair number of sensors and even accelerometer and gyroscope sensor onboard Cons: - The software it comes with is quite basic however as mentioned it is quite easy to program it yourself with better software if you use Visuino - The software it comes with does not implement ramping up and down the speed of the motors, and the robot starts and stops suddenly. This is also quite easy to fix if you decide to use Visuino to program it. - My Android devices were not able to connect to it over WiFi with the original software. I needed to download the source code and change the WiFi channel to 1 then it worked well. The Elegoo people were even kind enough to send me a step by step manual on how to update the code, and it was quite easy. - The ESP32 needs USB C cable to be reprogrammed. The KIT came with Micro and USB B cables for the Arduino and the Battery Packs, but there was no USB C . Not a big issue since USB C is quite common and most people will have one, but needed to point this - Has only one connector for adding more sensors or actuators. The version 3 of the robot had more connectors, and was easier to expand if you decide to add your own sensors. I have assembled my one and am quite happy with it. Will try to make also some video tutorials on how you can program it yourself. It really is quite easy.

Best kit to get kids interested in robotics!
This kit is priced right, has good features and made from decent-quality parts. It comes with everything you need to take kids (recommended ages 9 - 14) on a step-by-step journey into robotics. - Easy-to-assemble robot kit, with clear instructions and a rechargeable battery - Remote control for getting started quickly - App-based control by connecting to the robot's Wi-Fi - Relaying the robot's camera's view to the app - Block programming (like scratch.mit.edu) in the app - Advanced python programming once the kids have explored basic block-based programming I highly recommend it.

Good investment
The base/top plates are sturdy, even though they are plastic. Instructions are clear enough to understand and assemble. The UNO comes pre-programmed. So once you assemble it, you can start using it like a toy. App control is seamless. All default functions work well. I haven't figured out yet how to customize the programming, for example, do various other computer vision tasks.
