Twist, and the inner (green) filter comes up. Pull, and the entire assembly (green inner, and white outer) comes out. **Q: Is this filter sized to insert into a 3" pipe or 4" pipe?** A: This filter fits into a 4 inch pipe. And it snaps in snuggly. The filter itself is only about 3 inches, but the top part snaps into a 4 inch pipe and stays there. You can then turn the handle and remove the filter from the top piece, but it stays put. You need a 4 inch pipe for this to work. **Q: Can you put a pipe on it so you can remove it and put it in ? What the out side dimension as thin pipe and sch 40 different .** A: Yes, I made an extension and a tee handle out of 3/4" schedule 40 PVC. A couple of notes; PVC 3/4" schedule 40 pipe will fit into the top of the filter where the filter handle is located. I believed normal PVC glue would not secure the PVC onto the filter. So I drilled a hole in the PVC and utilized a stainless steel bolt & nut with flat washers on each side to secure it to the filter. I used stainless steel so it would not corrode. The filter does not simply lift in and out. When inserted it is twisted to lock into place. So I used a PVC Tee to make a tee handle on the end of the extension to aid in twisting the filter into and out of the lock position. **Q: I have the yellow tuff-tite unit. will this drop into the same standard outlet tee, or do i need a special extra-long outlet tee for it?** A: If you have a newer tank I would think that it would drop right in. If you have something older,or not to code,then some type of modification may be necassary ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy installation, top rated design, time will tell *by O***S on Reviewed in the United States on 12 July 2019* I have a brand new septic tank and replaced the default filter with this one after seeing the good reviews. This filter fits perfectly in to the standard 4" tee. There are two pieces to this kit. The shell of it locks in to the 4" tee. Then the filter inside the shell can be removed for easy cleaning. The locking tab they talk about is on the shell part of it and sticks out toward the outlet and keeps the whole assembly from sliding out of the tee. I like the fact you can remove the filter piece from the shell part of it to easily clean it without other stuff getting through to the outlet. Overall seems like a very good design and time will tell how it works. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Much better design *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on 10 May 2023* Replaced a yellow β€œtuf tight” yellow filter after it clogged and caused an overflow into the yard. Good times. This is a much better design and allows for easy cleaning with the sleeve that stays in plays when you pull out the main filter element. Only thing I wasn’t super impressed with was some of the plastic spot welds holding the filter element together. I ended up drilling holes through the weld spots and used small zip ties for better hold. Probably would have been fine as is but worth the minimal effort for piece of mind. Overall a much better filter than I was using. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fit, even in a tight spot - different color - nice peace of mind *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on 14 May 2020* * Note, photo includes filter without collar (in tank) and with recommended (not included) self-installed 1/2" PVC extension handle. I included a 1/8" stainless through bolt to connect the two.The product seems to have been updated since its original design very minimally. The color is now blue (not green) but its function is unchanged.It is appropriate for a retro-fit (adding a filter where there was not one) as long as there's an opening above the septic tank's effluent exit tee and the tee is a 4" PVC (or other 4" plastic) fitting. The plastic fitting on my tank was a lighter gauge plastic, (maybe not even PVC?), definitely not Schedule 40. The tank was installed in the early 90's and was in excellent condition.I installed a 6" Schedule 40 PVC pipe as an inspection hole riser, and this made the access down to the filter and tee even tighter.
