The benefits are 1) full weather proofing without a case - I find my iPhone goes bonkers if the screen gets covered in rain : 2) longer battery life when navigating - keep your phone battery full for emergencies 3) route storage and navigation without needing a premium Strava account or similar; 4) The Mio will create routes for you on the fly and give you three choices - I have used this to great effect when camping with the bikes in a new area 5) The Mio is loaded with all the European cycle routes and will find cycle friendly routes 5) The Mio has big on screen buttons and controls and is much easier to use when riding than a mobile phone screen **Q: How long is the warranty** A: I think it has a years warranty. I've had to send mine back once and the turn-around was pretty quick. I really like my 605 - it's a really good cycle satnav. **Q: Can you download gpx files from this to my mac computer?** A: The Mio uses a web portal for route management. You create routes on the web application and synchronise them to your Mio. You can also upload GPX files into the web portal and synchronise them to the Mio. You can’t create routes directly onto the Mio although the Mio will invent circular routes for you from your current position based on your choice of distance and then offer three choices. I have found this feature very useful when camping with the bikes in unknown territory. I am happy to say it has done exactly as I wanted. Sometimes it takes you to slightly odd places but all in all it has been great. Bit laggy when screen pressed. Only problem is with routes planned from mío share, they can be saved onto unit but navigation doesn’t work. You can see map but unable to ride route. I replaced it with the 605. Unfortunately the first one wouldn't always find a signal and after a week said that 'no satellite available'. Mio said it was defective and had to go back to Amazon. I returned it and received a replacement the following day. When I connected it up to my mac it was clear that this one wasn't working properly either and displayed a very odd message on the device. I spoke to Mio tech department again who said it was clearly mal-functioning but couldn't understand why. They were extremely apologetic. I'm having to return this one for a refund. Such a shame as in most other respects it's a very good satnav.Update May 2020. I bought another 605 direct from MIo (who gave me some discount because of the issues I had had with the previous two). This one has worked perfectly and not missed a beat. I love the big screen which I can read quite easily even without my reading glasses. It has all the functions I could possibly want and they are easy to access and use. I was out for nearly four hours this morning and used thirty percent of the battery power. The maps are clear and the directions it gives are very good and if you take a wrong turn it notifies you very quickly. If you ignore the instructions to turn back it will find a new route pretty quickly. The wifi connection works well as does the re-charging port.
