Purr-fect playpen for when cats need a time-out, or just a place to hang out.
I love these. I have three of them. I purchased two last summer (2019) at regular price, and one this current winter (2020) from Amazon Warehouse. I have several of my own cats, and I foster cats, periodically. As all cat people know, not all of our beloved feline friends like each other as much as we would want for them to. Not all cats mix with each other well, or even want to try - especially strays or ferals. In the last few years, I have become accustomed to using crates due to fostering as well as having litters of kittens to care for when one of my girls got out of the yard for a hot date. As any experienced cat rescuer knows, pregnant cats are moody, and once the litter has been born - very protective of their young, and even of the place in which they have chosen to give birth. Cats are territorial by nature. Even cats that generally get on well with each other will have turf wars from time to time. Add a litter of new kittens into the mix, or a stray in need of assistance, and it could be a recipe for disaster (and a trip to both the Vet and ER), depending on the temperament of the cats. I have had to separate my cats at times, and in a small apartment, there's not always adequate room to do so. The solution is to kennel the cats, in increments of time, when one is not able to adequately supervise them and keep the peace. I do have smaller crates - 30", 36", and an XXL 48" crate that I purchased in 2017 for a pregnant foster because my male cat wasn't the father of her litter - and those are great, for short periods of time. However, they are not suitable if the duration of time is longer than two or three hours. Cats can't properly move around in those, and lethargy is just as bad for their muscles as it is for humans. Not being able to move around, or climb, is stressful for them also. Kenneling in general, if for extended periods of time, causes great anxiety and depression, and can directly cause gastrointestinal problems. Crating or kenneling cats should only ever be a temporary solution, and/or for short periods of time, (even if the need is daily while one is at work), if necessary. Despite how nice the crate is, a cat cannot live in one 24-7 and never get out. That being stated, these Amazon Cat Playpens are much more suitable if one needs to crate or kennel their furbabies for the duration of a shift at work, or overnight, and/or if fostering. There is adequate space in the Amazon Basics Cat Playpen for a standard sized litter box; and, three tiers means that the cats can climb - something that all cats love to do. I have added sisal scratch posts (attached to the back of the crates) and hammocks, in addition to cozy fleece blankets and self-warming pads, onto the shelves. Bowls and feeders that attach to the sides of any wire crate can easily be attached to the Amazon Basics playpen. I have several at each level for dry food and fresh water. I have also added feather toys and hanging scratch pads (the kind with catnip in them) to a few sides, to keep them entertained when they have to be kenneled. The shelves are a perfect size for a cat to relax and take a nap on. If one places two shelves directly opposite one another, at the same height, the space in the middle is slightly smaller than the shelf, so there is room for a cat to climb in between. These shelves are adjustable, which is great, because cats of different weights and ages need space adequate to their overall body size. I stagger the shelves so there's more room to climb. To give a better idea of space: two large cats (12lbs - 14lbs) can fit comfortably in the playpen at once. Three of that size will fit, but I wouldn't suggest kenneling three large cats at once, unless it was only for a very, very, short period of time. One large cat of 18lbs - 20lbs can fit by himself/herself. Three smaller cats (7lbs or less) can fit comfortably. Five kittens of six months of age, or younger, as well as Mama cat, can also easily fit into the playpen. The playpens are sturdy, but because my cats love to climb up and on top of them, I have reinforced the sides with cable ties. I have placed cat beds and pillows atop the crates so that my cats can rest up there also. The playpens have wheels, and are very easy to move around. The wheels also lock easily to keep the playpen stationary. The shelves are good quality and very easy to remove and clean. My cats LOVE these playpens, and go into of them of their own volition, several times daily, to rest, to play, to eat or drink (when they don't feel like sitting next to one another in the kitchen at dinnertime) and to use the litter box. (I keep one litter box in each crate, at all times.) There are two doors on the front of the playpen that can be opened up separately. Since it's only my cats and no fosters at the moment - I keep the bottom door open with a bungee cord, (and the top closed) so that my cats can go in and out as they please. I only shut and lock the door when I need to shampoo carpets, or clean, or move things around in the apartment, or occasionally, put someone in time-out because he or she isn't getting along with the others . As mentioned, my cats love these playpens. I would rate the Amazon Basics playpen five out of five stars. It's well constructed, sturdy, and easy to move around. It's easy to clean and to keep clean. It's also easy to accessorize with lots of fun cat toys, scratch poles, hammocks, etc, which all crazy cat people can understand and relate to. It is also priced well, and though much less expensive than other cat playpens on the market, is just as good, if not better than, they. If you are in need of a playpen for your cat(s) - for whatever reason - I highly recommend the Amazon Basics 3 Tier Cat Cage Playpen. It's purrfect.

Great Little Cage❤
Our cats love these for a peaceful restful sleep during nighttime. Large enough for two cats comfortably... one has more than enough space. Easy to clean, Wheels lock and the ability to roll it around is priceless. Easiest to put together with two people.

Full review and tips for maximum enjoyment
Crate stands about 4 1/2 feet tall and big enough for a mom cat and her babies. We use it with a medium sized litterbox on the bottom with the included shelves containing food/water on one and break shelf (mom cat needs breaks too). It comes with three shelves total, but we found only 2 were actually needed. Made of sturdy metal that holds our 28lbs cat who likes to sit on the top outside of the crate. The included caster-style wheels are the quality of a rolling office chair and make moving the unit pretty easy/smooth. Pretty easy to roll for repositioning/cleaning, being super sturdy and not tipping over There are also two different front doors that open and close with a push down button open. If you struggle to open, push in on the door prior to pushing down the button. Likewise, make sure the swing latch of the door (there is a little "j" hook at the bottom) is in proper position BEFORE trying to click it closed. Another suggestion for additional structural stability, attach zip ties at the folding points of the cage to make extra sturdy (you will thank me later). Other than that, great product, does what it advertises and just another quick point, DO NOT use bleach, clorox wipes or anything other than dawn dishsoap to clean the plastic tray inserts, they will get this white discoloration and even though it doesnt "damage" anything, it makes it a pain to get off. Any other question, drop a comment and I will answer. *disclaimer* I purchased this myself for private use, I was NOT paid for my review, nor given the item free. This is just my honest impression on this product

Decent crate, just needs minor tweaks
Works great, easy to assemble. Serves its purpose and easy to clean. Easy access openings on bottom and top of the crate. Bottom tray easily slides out. Wheels don’t automatically swivel in the direction you’re pushing it but moves smooth after manually moving the wheels. Trays shift when cat jumps to different levels.. maybe a clip fastener something to make them a little more stable would be good. Bars to the doors squeak loud which can be startling for some animals but nothing a little wd-40 can’t fix. There’s also a random metal hinge clip that I’m assuming is a door lock feature (maybe it’s mentioned in description and I missed it) but it just gets stuck on doors when moving the crate.

Solid cat cage!
If you're looking for a solid cat cage that's less than what a lot of other brands go for, this is the one. I bought this for my newly adopted 6 month old kitten a few weeks ago and it's sturdy, safe, and easy to clean. The doors latch firmly and the whole thing can be set up in less than 15 minutes. The hammock, cage scratching post, and kennel food and water bowls I bought that attach to the bars also fit perfectly into the cage, and there's room on the bottom for a small open litter box. I can't speak for how the wheels that attach to the bottom work because I didn't bother putting them on, but aside from that I highly recommend this cage. It's really given me peace of mind that when I'm away from home, my kitten is somewhere safe where he can't get into trouble but still has all the necessities and comforts he requires to feel secure and taken care of. He's so comfy with it that if I leave the bottom door open while I'm home, he'll come and go as needed to access his food bowls without any prompting. It's cat approved!

Love these!!!!
These cages are so nice I came back and bought a second one!! It takes two people to put them together so one person holds it up while the other person snaps it together. Nothing hard about it. Takes less than 5 minutes. I use mine on the front porch for my cats little vacation time away from the inside world during the day only. Never leave cats outside in this cage AT NIGHT! It wasn’t designed for that because a wild animal like a raccoon will go after food in the cage possibly attacking your cat then rabies could happen. A raccoon can put its little hands through this cage. I use mine outside during the day under my watchful eye by our front door. It’s nighttime predators that you should be concerned about. You would need a cage with tighter wiring for night. Like screen. Totally great for indoor use and attractive!! Sturdy. We used pliers to tighten the snaps. We will be moving in a bit so it’s very easy to take apart and fold. You can also decorate it any way you like! It’s so cute and it’s large!!! Enough space for the litter box. It’s also really easy to clean!!! I just lift the shelves out easily and put them in my tub and wash and spray them down so there’s never an odor or hair! Wipe dry. Or you could use the water hose or simply wipe it down. Easy peasy!!! I’m getting ready to roll one into the back bedroom for 3 feral kittens that I have to chase down and catch! Yes it has wheels that have brakes!! Everybody’s happy!! My babies love it!! And if my babies are happy then Mama’s happy!!! It keeps my kittens from jumping all over my better half as well!! lol. Great buy!! Twice!!! Will purchase another one after we move. These cages have definitely made my life easier. : )

Hayppy with purchase and cat likes it
We bought this so our indoor cat could venture outside now and then. We have a large cat, 12lbs, this left her plenty room. The shelves held up fine. There are some rough spots on the wire here and there, she went to sniff and hit one of those spots it didn't hurt her but it startled her. It rolls smoothy if on carpet or floor but if you have throw rugs it will grab them and bunch them under the cage so we have to slightly lift it over those as we go. I am one of those people when I read "takes 2 people to set up" I'm like "please, I do stuff on my own all the time". But yep, this will take 2 people in most cases to set up but set up quick and easy. One of the shelves was slightly warped when it came and didn't set well on the support for it but it still worked ok. Like other people I did put a bunch of zip ties around it to help support it better especially since she would be in it outside, wanted to make sure it was secure. I read that some people's cats figured out the latch, and upon looking at it, I can see how that might happen. I don't think mine will (she's lazy) but I still bought a couple carabiners for a few bucks to "lock" it to be on the safe side. I'm happy with it.

This is just perfect for my cat
Super Sturdy, I see other reviews mentioning using tie wraps for stabilization, but did not need to add any, I only have one cat that will be using this pen. The doors are large, I had no trouble inserting a larger cat litter box, and plan to purchase a covered litter box now that I see the door opening size, covered for a personal preference to prevent anything falling into the litter box. I wrapped a shelf in a pillowcase for cat comfort, and plan to attach a cat bed to the wire to prevent it from falling off the shelf when the cat jumps up. Also plan on attaching a cat scratching pad to the wall. I plan on feeding the cat inside the pen so it gets used to it, along with the litter box and the door propped open. Bought originally to bring the cat along when visiting family, I don’t want to board my cat, or have a service stopping by because of cost concerns. I like that it’s on wheels, I think I will roll it out onto the porch in good weather for some outside fresh air time, or place it in front of an open screened window. I had help to unfold/assemble, but think I could do it myself now that I see how it unfolds. Edited to add, I used large safety pins to secure the cat bed to the wire frame to prevent it from falling, safety pins should work for any style fabric cat bed. Easy to remove for cleaning. Additional update regarding use. After cat was spayed I removed her litter box and re positioned the two side shelves to the same height, under the top access door. Creating a first floor very roomy recovery room. I Placed the third shelf between them to restrict the cat overnight for recovery, this prevented any running or jumping. Letting her out to relieve herself during the night, and she was very willing to stay in the bottom compartment overnight with a cat bed. What a Godsend! I got to sleep at night, and she recovered safely and quickly.

Cat cage 3 tier
Thank you so much! My cats are very happy with the cage. Assembly was easy overall, although one lock was a little stuck and I had to use a screwdriver to open it. After that, everything went together perfectly. Great quality and I'm very happy with my purchase! 😍❤️🙏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
