Great EDC without breaking the bank
I own a few Leatherman multi's and Gerbers too. Each has their purpose. I like this one in particular as my EDC for when I need a little of everything but not heavily. When I need someone more like a heavy workhorse, then I grab my Leatherman supertool 300. Many will claim this Gerber Suspension NXT is not solid. It is. It is just not meant for torquing down on the pliers with a death grip like you can with a Leatherman. But it will certainly do its job for daily obstacles in life. The Scissors are awesome. The file is short but more affective than many comparable multitools in this pricepoint. The awl is more wide but still useful and strong. Blister packs are a breeze to open with this EDC. The pliers are great for standard use of assembly or disassembly of hardware. The Philips driver is very handy. The fact that everything locks is a huge plus. The ruler is short but still very useful if you are crafty in making it work for longer measurements. The can't complain about the weight. It's ideal for an EDC but the compromise in weight is why it is not as stout as a high end leatherman. It's nothing to due with quality but all to do with staying in a pricepoint for a more lighter everyday useful multitool. If this set let's you down, then you are a candidate for a heavy duty, more expensive, multitool. Oterhwise, the Suspension NXT is a clear winner in my pocket and respective wallet.

Recommended for EDC
This is a fantastic tool for EDC. It fits well in jean pockets with the clip and isn’t too excessive/bulky. The safety on it was a nice touch (just pull down on both sides to release). Plus it’s stable; I never have an issue with the mechanism buckling. It saved me more than once for needing a screwdriver to adjust the choke on an ice fishing drill or just general use around the house. The tension can be adjusted with a star bit. I ended up losing one and had to come back. Would recommend.

Gerber Gear Suspension NXT 15-in-1 is a Clear Winner. Many Years and Counting.
Greetings. This Gerber is superior to all my other multitools for my purposes because of the specific combination of features:* Working Scissors * Working Full-Phillips Driver * Serious Abuse Handling * Spring Load Pliers with good machining * Lightweight but full-size feeling. It is still working perfectly after many years of abuse (countless machine screws, torquing the pliers, etc.). I can't believe it is still essentially new. All my failed Leathermen and Gerbers have found good second homes. Unsolicited advise: Select the tool based on what you know to be the primary use and then reject it the minute it fails to perform that specific function. When you find one that exceeds the intended purpose, all the multi-features become major bonuses. All IMHO.

Finally pulled the trigger!
After having lost my G.S., I mulled-over whether or not I would buy another. Weeks went by. More research was done. Then, I decided to replace my G.S........with a Leatherman Wave.-----------------Mother's day 2010...I cannot believe this. I used my Gerber Suspension to cut a straw in a restaurant and left the dang thing on the table. Called back to the restaurant to see if it was still there, and guess what... it wasn't.I'm PISSED! It was an awesome field tool. Guess it's time to buy another ~ LOL.-----------------(Several weeks before Mother's Day 2010...)I've been researching like crazy to find the best multi-tool for ME, and I've chosen the Gerber Suspension. Here's why...PRICE - Can't be beat unless you're buying it from Gweedo of the docks or off the back of a box-truck.SAFETY - It seems that when safety is a primary concern for a product such as this, you must sacrifice a bit of utility and functionality. No problem. I'd rather have a shorter knife plus tools that lock in place than pinched palms and blood-blisters.COMFORT - I've played around with Leatherman multi-tools, and they always leave this nagging feeling in my hand as if something's just not right. There simply is no comparison between handling the straight edges of Leatherman vs. the butterfly contour of the GS. The GS offers a far more ergonomic and "friendly" feel when being handled. Spring-loaded pliers on the GS also add to ease-of-use so I'm not using my middle finger as a "spring" as I would have with the Leatherman.EXPANDABILITY - The $8 bit kit squelches complaints about the lackluster philips head screwdriver. This inexpensive kit also helps to extend one's reach father than the Leatherman's stubby drivers.UTILITY - It's got everything a multi-tool needs. Though it would nice to have a file, I've found that the solution to this is to purchase a separate, small, flat file that fits in the case.KNIFE - One of the more attractive features of the Leatherman (Wave, Surge, TTi) is the knife. Leatherman offers a beefy knife with THOSE models, but not-so with their other traditional models. Apples to apples between the GS and standard Leatherman multi-tools proves the GS blade to be comparable. If I need to perform hardcore cutting, I wouldn't use a multi-tool blade anyway. RULE NUMBER ONE with any tool is to use the RIGHT tool for the job...ESPECIALLY if it has a cutting edge. With this in mind, the GS's knife is spot-on for mundane tasks like cutting string, cardboard, rubber hoses, cloth, etc. If I'm sharpening a stick to make it into a spear, I'd rather use a bowie.WEIGHT AND MECHANICAL - Nothing wrong here. Great weight. Rigid. Tool-draw stiffness wears off with use (as it should). Now, the only reason I give it four stars instead of five is the fact nothing deserves five stars until I've used and abused it for more than six months. I would rather come back and post glowing highlights deserving of a five-star redux after I've applied the GS to some real-world situations. So, would I ever recommend, say, a Leatherman Wave, over the Gerber Suspension? Maybe...as soon as Leatherman brings its price-point down to around $35, adds spring-loaded pliers, extends the reach of their bits, and does something about palm pinching. Otherwise, I think anyone who needs a medium-duty EDC multi-tool will be delighted with the GS.Finally, there's that issue of the GS being made in China. It sucks that it's not American made, but I have nothing against Chinese people, nor do I care to apply politics to "toolism". At least being made in China allows American small business owners to afford the wholesale cost of this product and make some money to feed their American families when people buy it. The GS is still designed by American engineers who work at an American company.Let's not complicate the issue, though. Does the GS do what it's supposed to do, offer better-than-expected performance, and do so at a great price-point? Yes. 'Nuff said.-

Excellent !!!
This is a great Everyday Carry Multi-Tool. Lots of Functions and Quality, but won't Break The Bank.

Good value, decent quality, fits basic needs
I picked these up to make a bunch of 6x12in "handy travel stuff" canvas pouches for myself & friends. I always end up accidentally forgetting about my multitool or pocketknife or scissors when I go through airport security, or I forget to bring or end up losing pens or a scarf or my notebook, or I end up having to use a shoelace for a makeshift clothesline when paracord would have been just the thing, or I space out bringing a lighter or a flashlight -- you know, all that stuff that you bring and lose on the trip, or stuff you forget to bring but would have ended up coming in super-handy at one point or the other, or stuff that inconsistent airport security screening will let pass in one country but clamp down on in another for some unknown reason. If I'm not traveling around on vacation or business, it'd be handy stuff to just have in the car. So it turns out that I wanted some kind of inexpensive but reliable multi-tools to put in these pouches and I spent a day looking through the options. I'd recently had a Gerber multitool confiscated by airport security in Edinburgh, so I figured that I'd check out all the other brands for a replacement, including the AliExpress chinesium ones, but when I went through the list of tools and looked at the quality of steel and construction, I kept coming back to Gerber. The value proposition of this multi-tool is really good. You get enough tools to fit most common requirements, decent steel and a reasonable (pretty cheap, all considered) price. I bought four of them. They don't need to be especially rugged, though they are substantial, and they won't likely get more than a week's use if they do become necessary. It was just the thing for my little pouches and if one should get lost it won't break the bank to replace.

The best multi-tool to have
I live with this thing on my hip. A very useful tool for all things. Only fault I have found is when using the pliers with a twisting motion, but even when it broke Getber replaced it five years after the sale. This one I bought for my brother. Great multi tool.

Very well built.
Of course there are better multi-tools out there. But NOT at this price point. Very well built. This is a preliminary review as I just took it out of the box. I will use, abuse, and play with it, then update review in a couple of weeks. 2.23.16***UPDATE*** A month in, and I am really liking this tool. For this price, there simply isn't a better one. My only complaint is pulling each tool open is a bit hokey. Better thumb nail slots would have been nice. I am getting used to it though, and it is certainly not worth docking this tremendous value any stars. I ordered a second one to drop in my BOB. Buy with confidence!!***UPDATE*** I have also come to the conclusion the positive locking mechanism that holds the tools open is awesome! Zero concern of it folding closed on me. It stays locked until you hold the release in, and because of the location of the release it is pretty much impossible to hit accidentally while using the tool. I also have come to notice the super silky motion of the pliers. The joint is so well machined and the surfaced mated so precise, it literally feel like the joint is a ball bearing. The pliers spring return is top notch too. The spring is internal where the plier halves come together. The el-cheap-o metal tabs some just tuck into the plasti-dip on the handles, or piece of clicky pen spring that never aligns up with the hole on the other side are an absolute joke. I seriously wish the 6 piece MAC Tools pliers kit I have had this spring system. That $299 set has the stupid el-cheap-o tabs. All of which have gone MIA over the last 15 years.... Seriously - buy 3 of these! I don't know how they make any money on this multi-tool. I am going to say they don't. This must be one of those "gotcha"; tools that get the manufacturer's name in your head, so you spend money on other tools in their line. Well played, Gerber. I'm sold..... I will happily spend cash on some of your other goodies!!***UPDATE*** 08.24.2021 - Just checking into to say I still use this multi-tool! While it doesn't see daily use, it does get used quite often. The large blade has been sharpened a couple times - the metal is a touch on the soft side, I don't expect it being a useful blade after 3-4 more sharpenings. None the less, still 100% worth every penny. I have since purchased at least 3 others - 1 for the bug out bag, and 2 as gifts. Buy with CONFIDENCE!!!

Great quality and value
The quality of the Gerber is second to none with all stainless steel constructtion, razor sharp knifes and tough Phillips & flat-head screwdrivers. The spring-loaded pliers are a nice-touch, and the bottle opener is a must at the end of a tough day. For such quality you would expect to pay double.

Nicely made and handy tool.
The looking system for the tools works well. It could be better explained as it took me a couple of days before I realised you have to pinch both side of the body to pull the release mechanism. I used o be an engineer so I think I cant be alone in not understanding it straight away. Otherwise well made and easy to use. The scissors are not as good as on a Swiss army knife but work. The knife blade is fantastic and sharp as a razor.
