What a GREAT -- no, INCREDIBLE light!
We have an area at our office building, an upper deck with entryway, that has no outside light. We could get something wired in, but not very easily, given that it is a cinder block building and there isn't any wiring close to draw from, plus, it's the hassle of installation, and another light to forget to leave on or forget to turn off. So, this seemed ideal -- a motion activated porch light for the times we are accessing that door, after dark, which happens frequently for our later shift. I mounted this right in the upper corner of the rather wide wooden door sill (so I didn't have to deal with the cinder block), and it's a gem! Works GREAT! The outside security lighting we have does not reach that doorway, so, even though our back parking lot is fairly well lit, this light still pops on reliably whenever we are using that upstairs back door at night. The only issue we had was that, if the inside upstairs was well lit, then, when you opened the door from the inside, at night, this light did not kick on, because there was too much light coming through the windows of the door itself, and so the sensor did not sense enough darkness to know to turn the light on, when motion was sensed (the door opening, for example). We could maybe have gotten around that with trial and error of location, maybe, but I found that just leaving off the inside lamps nearest the door dimmed things down enough for the sensor to know that it is "night" and pop the light on when the door is opened from inside. So, problem solved, and it now also acts as a motion sensor warning, given that, if someone is at the back door, we see the light kick on and shine in through the back door window. So, a terrific product, does what it says, won't run down batteries because it only comes on as needed, is easily mounted and aimed wherever you want it to shine, and throws a BRIGHT and fairly wide spot of light. It is a "spot light" kind of light, so, good to keep in mind that it does not (and is not designed to) shine beyond where it is pointed really, but, if you are looking for a quick area light with no wiring issues, that is motion activated, this is a great light and I highly recommend it! ***** UPDATE: December, 2013: Just wanted to say that, not only is this light still going strong, but it's still on the SAME ORIGINAL batteries from installing it, back in January of this year, and showing no signs of significant dimming, WOW!!! That will be a year of use, in a few weeks, on the same batteries. Light is still working GREAT!!! Needless to say, Mr. Beams ROCKS!!!

Excellent product!!
Great little light! I have a walkway along side the garage that contains one step midway, in a very dark area. A couple of people have tripped on that step or stepped off, not knowing they were stepping off. When I saw that there was a battery operated security light, I thought it could be just what I need. This one is!! It works perfectly. Took me about 5 minutes to install and it provides plenty of illumination. Actually a surprising amount for a low power consumption LED. I have it mounted up under the eave about 8 feet high and it throws a circle of light about 20 feet in diameter and the step is totally visible now. The motion sensor works great and pops the light on when a pedestrian is about 5 to 10 feet from the step. I have only had this for about two months, so I don't know how long the batteries will last, but I think this is going to work out just fine for me. The only time of year it is really needed is from November to April, and with three D cells, I'm betting I'll have to replace the batteries maybe once a year. I am very satisfied with this light for the price and ease of use. UPDATE: (Dec. 12th, 2013) I have had this light installed for two years now and it is still working like it did the day it was first installed AND ON THE ORIGINAL BATTERIES! It lights my "hidden step" area perfectly and does just what I needed. This is one of those products that is worth every cent as far as I'm concerned. It does what it is supposed to do and has exceeded my expectations related to performance and longevity. If you need to illuminate a 20 foot area and you can mount it 8 feet high, this will do the job!

Pretty Good for a Battery-Operated Light
I am trying to add more security to our new home that is being built. The construction site previously had no lights, and the neighbors told us that there were people snooping around the house one night. I bought three Mr. Beams spotlights to use as temporary lighting until I can get electricity to the house. I installed one under the front porch (facing the street) and two under the back porch (facing the garage door and back porch steps), and all three work great. The spotlight is pretty good for being battery operated. It is not super bright but it will add decent light to a dark area. I was impressed with the motion detector's range. After installing the spotlights, we drove up to the house during the night to see if they worked. The front porch spotlight turned on when we parked the car on the street (approximately 30-35 feet from the house). Installation was easy. Another positive thing I noticed is that light rain will not trigger the motion detectors. I will do an update on the longevity of the spotlights in a couple of months. I had the spotlights for about a week so far. Some downsides: I like this product and would recommend it for areas that lack electric power sources. I can't say I love this product. The battery cover seems a little flimsy. Also, I bought this: 2 Pack: Wireless Motion Sensor LED Lights ~ 10 Wide Area LED Bulbs at Costco for about $20, which is currently a better value than Amazon. The Megabrite lights work just as good as the Mr. Beams spotlights. To be fair, the Megabrite package said the lights are not intended for outdoor use, but I have all the lights installed under a porch, and can't really notice a difference in brightness between the brands. UPDATE October 27, 2011: I've checked on the lights about once a week, and they are all still working. Overall, I prefer the Mr. Beams spotlights. I've noticed that the Mr. Beams spotlights cast a white light, and the Megabrite lights cast a bluish-white light. Thus, the Mr. Beams spotlights are brighter. Also, Mr. Beams lights look a lot better. A couple of people commented about our "cameras" when looking at the Mr. Beams lights. The Megabrite lights look like a 1990s cell phone stuck on the ceiling of our porch. Both the Mr. Beams and Megabrite lights will not turn on if you are moving EXTRA slow, but I doubt a burglar will have the patience to do that. I guess it all boils down to what you plan to use the lights for and how much you are willing to spend. The Megabrite lights serve their purpose to provide light, and are almost half the price.

Bright Spot Can Be Directed Where You Need It ... Or Defensively
Update: Jan. 31, 2013. If I could give this an extra star for customer service, I would. While trying to redirect the light last week, I slipped, pulled the front off, and broke the battery cover. It seems that the battery cover is very important: the light doesn't work without it. I wrote to Mr Beams, and they said that they would replace the whole unit at no charge, and today - 4 days later - I received the new unit. It works like a charm, and I'm grateful for the excellent customer service that they provided. Btw, it's been two months, and they haven't skipped a beat or beam as the case may be. They're working fine, and the light is bright enough to cover the doors and immediate walkways. **** I got the two MB360s LED Spotlight Motion Sensors so that I didn't have to leave front and back lights on when we were gone for a day, and then when we got home, these would light up the doors (and locks) and, if necessary, I could turn on the lights from the garage. I've never thought of using these before, but recently our little cul de sac has had three new families move in and they're evidently saving on their electric bills. And then there was the safety factor: If there are intruders - and I include raccoons, opossums, and once even a wayward tiger that was reported by our neighborhood watch (it was, not quite as I expected - but close - the fattest cat in the neighborhood: didn't even have stripes!) - when these lights go off, the prism that magnifies the light does quite a job. It lights up half of the outside of our house and all the nooks and crannies that are out there. I was concerned about wearing out 4 D Cell batteries every few weeks because as a motion sensor, they might go off in the daytime. But these are set to go off only when there is little light between sunset and sunrise. I know that some have said that these are easily installed. Well, charge your electric drill because each comes with two 3.5-inch very thin screws per light. My drill was dead as a doornail, and the wood that I was using has been "cured" by 40 years of paint and sun-baked. It took 30 minutes for the first one to screw it in by hand. When my brain had enough power to have a light bulb go off, I just waited for the drill/screwdriver to charge. Still not so easy since they really are VERY thin screws. So far, they're working fine. We haven't had a raccoon or possum in over 24 hours! No burglars either unless you consider Sydney, our neighborhood squirrel, the biggest thief of the bunch. (But kudos for neatness Sydney.) ew

Economical security light
I bought two of these to keep watch on my yard between my house and garage and my driveway. I live on a very dark street, and unless I keep my electric outside light on, it is pitch dark. Somehow, even in the complete moonless darkness, these things can detect motion up to about 25 or 30 feet away. My outside electric lights consist of 4 lights that are on the same switch, so these nice little battery operated, motion detecting, photocell lights are great! They are about as bright as a 25 watt bulb (which is BRIGHT compared to the pitch dark). They stay on for 30 seconds after the detected motion stops, and are not overly sensitive so that every car that drives by turns them on. The 3 D-cell batteries should power these for quite some time, seeing as the LED does not use much power and it does not stay on excessively long. Update: Its now four months later. I ordered two more lights for the other two sides of my house. I'm still on the same batteries on the first two lights. After a little fine tuning with light position and a magic marker 'blinder' on one light to get it to ignore road traffic, these have worked out perfectly! Their best use is giving some light to very dark areas. I think that the folks that have problems with them not coming on, must have a lot of surrounding street lights or neighboring outside lighting. My block is REALLY dark and these have done nicely for me. Nobody will be able sneak up to my house! Not even the neighbor's cat! Update: Now it's eight months later. I've only had to replace batteries in one of the lights--the one between the house and the garage that gets the most use. These lights performed very well during our cold Minnesota winter. The lights were very welcome since, during the winter, it is dark when I leave for work in the morning and dark when I get home. No more dark walks to the garage or out the front to the mailbox. The lights are always there to greet me.

Does The Job, but not 100% Weatherproof
We have a small backyard/patio for which I purchased Mr. Beams MB363 (3-Pack). The size of the area is about 576sqft (24x12). Since one light is rated at 350sqft of coverage, I figured the 3-pack would be best. While the coverage is just about perfect, I was most disappointed with the brightness, even where the three lights slightly overlap each other. These lights replaced a standard motion sensor light with 2 Philips 1350 Lumen Halogen Bulbs. I knew the Mr. Beam lights would not provide the same amount of brightness as the Philips bulbs, but just didn't truly know how "light" 140 Lumen was until I installed these. The lights provide enough visibility to be somewhat satisfied, so I'll give them 6-8 months to set in. The motion sensor light these replaced will be converted to a standard outdoor light on a switch, which we currently do not have for the backyard/patio. EDIT 01/20/15... Reduced rating from 3 stars to 2. Out of the 3 spotlights, one has become unresponsive. Upon closer inspection, there was a visible sign of water damage just by looking at the location where the light emits from the unit. Upon opening the unit from its locked position, I could now begin hearing the water damage... rusty grinding sound as I unlocked it. Once unlocked, the was more evidence of water damage by the amount of water sitting in the back cover. After removing the batteries, I decided to removed the battery casing, as well as the board from the unit. The entire inside of the unit was wet. I cleaned it up, even dried it out a bit with a hair dryer set to low. Put in fresh new batteries, but nothing was going to bring this back to life. The water damage rendered the spotlight dead. But, according to the product description it is supposed to be weatherproof.. "Features weatherproof design for durability". Guess this unit was not. The other 2 appear to be fine. I didn't take them apart as I did this one, but I didn't see the collection of water in the light. These weren't cheap. I just wish they were as described... "weatherproof". EDIT: 02/04/15 After no response from filling out their online Return Inquiry on 01/20/15, I decided to contact Mr. Beams directly last week. I explained the situation to a very nice, and understanding, rep (Mia). She apologized, and, within minutes, asked for my shipping address and stated a replacement light would be sent out. I asked if she needed the original Amazon Order # or if I needed to send the confirmation email from Amazon. Nope. Now that's trust and customer service. Not sure what caused 1 out of 3 lights to take on water, perhaps the seal gave way. Either way, Mr. Beams stands behind their products. Thanks Mia, and Mr. Beams.

**update I've had it for five years still on original batteries**WOW... impressive and at a reasonable cost too..
**update have been using for over 5 years and it still works perfectly!!*** I ordered the Mr.BeamsMB360 Wireless motion spotlight after some scumbag attempted to break into my house. This is the second attempt in eights months. I am a widow, widowed at 25, who lives alone. After the first break in the restoration company replaced my front door with a steel front door with steel reinforcements (kick guards). The perp kicked in my door the second time, only to bend it inward. The kick guards prevented my door from being kicked open. I felt uneasy to say the least. After the sherriff's office left, they suggested I install some motion decector lights. So, I purchased this one. I have amazon prime. I ordered it Saturday morning and it arrived Monday afternoon! Super fast!! No extra charge for shipping. The packaging was perfect. It was easy to assemble, just open it up and pop the batteries in. I will admit I ran into some frustration getting the lamp to spin the 360 degrees as advertised. But with a little muscle (and a few curse words) I finally got it to the position I wanted. I installed it over my front door and tested it out immediately. The light flicked on, very bright, as I approached the front stoop. My front door is hidden from the street, by my garage door, and my house is the first in the neighborhood, which is evidently a good target for perps. The pizza delivery boy was startled tonight when he came up to my door and was met by a bright light. I feel safer now. I suggest this for any home owner. I also ordered the Solar Powered Motion Sensor Detector alarm, it flashes a blue light and alarms, "warning protected area" with a piercing sound. I have to find somewhere to install that one. I only gave it four stars as I've just installed it. I am enclosing a pic, in which you can see the dent in my front door - red door, so you can see how bright the light is. ***update I've had it for over three years now and it's still running on the original batterries**

Great- when you know the "secret"
We were looking for battery operated, motion activated lights to illuminate the isolated sides of our yard; however, not for normal security purposes. The sole purpose was to startle/scare off, or at least alert me to the presence of, coyotes which have recently become a threat to small pets in our neighborhood. We did not want to deal with hard wiring and we did not want something so bright it would disturb the neighbors. I bought the white 3 pack and they worked perfectly for our purposes- once I found the "secret" instructions. When we first installed the batteries the lights came on- and stayed on. I thought we would have to return them; but first I went back and read the one star reviews and the comments on those reviews. One reviewer had the same problem and the (very responsive) seller commented. The instructions in the box say: "NOTE: Light sensor only allows Spotlight to activate in darkness. We recommend testing in a dark room or closet." Since our spotlight clearly activated in daytime, this didn't help. But the seller's advice to the other reviewer was: "It is important to follow the test described in the instruction manual by taking the unit into a dark room and allowing it to sit with no motion in its view for around a minute to allow the motion sensor to stabilize." Once we followed this, they worked perfectly. Easy to install and activate properly. I realize that many people will be buying for traditional home security purposes and you need to be aware that these do not compare with a hard-wired security light in either brightness or duration. Update two months later. Surprised at how reliable these are. Even with all of the moving Christmas lights within range of two these, they work as they should. Only go off when something crosses its range. Lights don't set it off or prevent it from going off when it should. Too bad they can't help during the day- had to chase off a coyote hanging around our gate in broad daylight :-( Final update 10-2-14- Ok, I just have to say how impressed I am with the durability of these little lights. It's been about a year and these have survived a brutal desert summer with 110+ degree days common and four massive wind/rain storms including historic rains and "microbursts" strong enough to uproot trees. As of this morning the most frequently triggered light- on a post 12 feet from the protection of the house- is still working. On the original Duracell battery I put in a year ago, I might add. OK- I lied- one more update 11-26-17. Four years now and all 3 lights are still working perfectly. And I think I've only replaced the batteries once. Amazing. Bumping this to a five star review.
