Featuring a Foreword by Roger Knowles FRICS, FCIArb, FQSi, Barrister The book discusses the different types of claim common to construction contracts and presents a step-by-step guide which demonstrates the process of building up the submission of a claim. It includes guidelines as to how to set out the claim, section by section in a logical manner to ensure that the essentials of a successful claim are included. Worked examples of claims for variations, extensions of time and additional payment are included together with sample wording showing precisely how the claim may be presented in a manner which will lead the reviewer to a logical conclusion - or at least contain a persuasive argument to support the claimant’s case. The vast majority of claims are managed without the need to resort to case law or legal matters. Construction Claims: effective writing & responses therefore discusses what the claim is trying to achieve and how to do this in a logical and persuasive manner This is a practical, hands-on guide for the construction industry professional which explains how to approach the preparation of the claim document, what topics to cover, how to present the essential elements and how to compile the submission document into a user friendly and comprehensive document. For those whose job it is to review such submissions, it advises how to prepare responses which set out the respondent’s counter arguments, points of view and determinations. The guide covers: The various types of claim. How the claim may be split into sections dealing with the details of the contract, the cause, the effect, entitlement and quantum. What this section is attempting to demonstrate or achieve and why. What should be included within the section and why. Worked examples of typical claims and responses with sample wording. Review: The Go-to Guide for Outstanding Claims Writing and Presentation - I was a self-taught claims practitioner, with my knowledge of claims gleaned mostly from reading claims prepared by experts hired by my employer. At some point during my second year of self-study, I chanced upon a mention of ‘Construction Claims & Responses, Effective Writing & Presentation’, and I immediately ordered a copy online. This turned out to be the most important piece of literature I have purchased in my career. The improvement in the quality of my claims was so great that I regretted the pain I had put claims reviewers through with my earlier claims submissions. I strongly recommend 'Construction Claims & Responses, Effective Writing & Presentation’ to anyone that is starting out in this field, and those seeking to improve their writing and presentation of claims. Review: Construction Claims and Responses - I've just received my newly-purchased copy and have started to read. I like what I see so far: good layout, logically arranged content and - most importantly - written with instruction in mind !

medium quality
I cannot say that it has specifically help me in my claims writing, but more it an give you some ideas of other possible claims I was expecting to find directions and how to structure a claim rather than some examples that might not happen again,

Excellent Book - Highly Recommended
I purchased this book during preparation for enrolment on Andy's 'Claims Class' Distance Learning Course having already been involved in the writing of claims for a few years. As other reviewers have noted, the book is well written, easy to understand, logical and applicable and I have already made significant improvements to my own claims as a result. Andy's other book (The FIDIC Contract: Obligations of the Parties) is also equally useful when read in conjunction with the relevant FIDIC contract whether the Red Book or another. I cannot recommend Andy's book highly enough and only hope that he considers writing a similar book to Roger Knowles "200 Contractual Problems and their Solutions" based on his experience and using case studies.

I first purchased Andy Hewitt's book “Construction Claims & Responses” ...
I first purchased Andy Hewitt's book “Construction Claims & Responses” at publication. It immediately caught my attention due not only to the title but the content provided for a new and yet previously unpublished approach to Claims. Construction Claims is structured in a logical format and offers a practical approach and guidance in the preparation of Claims and has, for me, proven to be very valuable when used as a quick reference when assessing Contractors Claims allowing me to quickly identify anomalies and inconsistencies within Contractors submissions. For those wanting to pursue a Claims career it will prove very valuable in providing, from the onset, a structured logical and practical means to follow when compiling Claims and for the more experienced Claims Specialist will assist in maintaining discipline and consistency.
