If I had cared that much, I could have easily gone back and added a bit more to the top OR I could probably very lightly sand/buff the bottom. It's very adaptable. I broomed and used a damp sponge to wipe dust away. Then I let it dry before I started to use the product. I LOVED this product. **Q: Does it work on brick that has a shiny sealed look** A: Our Whitewash Paint will only adhere to porous surfaces, as it is designed to soak into the pores of the brick or stone surface, with the excess being wiped away. We cannot guarantee that the product will performed as intended for non-porous surfaces. **Q: Can they be used for a floor?** A: We do not recommend application to floors, as we have not tested this application and would not be able to provide a warranty on it. **Q: Can you use this on slate stone ?** A: Even though this is for "brick", I dont see why you couldn't. Make sure the surface is free of debris and oils. Thr stone is naturally pourus and should be able to 'soak' up the paint. I would however not recommend it be placed on floor surfaces as it will likely come back up over time and fade from traffic. I worried I would not have enough paint or that it may be messy. It was so incredibly easy. It only took me a couple of hours while I was watching tv. The most challenging part is actually cleaning the fireplace before you begin. Once the brick is ready, it’s very quick and is complete within 24 hours and ready to decorate. I am including before and after. The third picture is Easter and changed the look of the entire room. I would highly recommend this over guessing all the different things you will need when you would end up spending probably more than this. I wanted a true white washed look. If you are looking for a painted look then go out and buy the paint you want, but if you want it to truly look white washed, this did it for me. I used every bit of it to achieve this. If you want something deeper, you would have to buy another kit. For context. I have a small hearth and my fireplace is approximately 5 feet across and I have low ceilings.
