Rattleback - Multicolor Pack of 10

Amazing to watch. Might even be used as a magic trick.

I wish that they were a little heavier, but since they are molded plastic, I don't see that is possible. I got these to give away. Great fun.

These things are way cooler than I expected! If you spin them one way they'll go forever, but spin the other way & they'll rattle to a stop or change direction. I figured it would be a cool stocking stuffer for work, & I was absolutely right. I only wish I'd bought more, I think everyone should have one for absent-minded fiddling. They're not exceptionally useful for anything else but they're great kinetic playthings. The package I received also came with a lesson plan for a physics/science class, which was a really neat addition; it has suggested activities about making observations. Cool toy, even cooler learning tool.

I purchased these to give as holiday stocking stuffers. They look great and perform well. In other words they spin freely and rattle back in the opposite direction perfectly. The key is to spin them slowly and smoothly. One thing to be aware of is mine all came in one color. By the description I assumed it would be an assortment of colors. Nope. I also purchased one of the “metal” rattlebacks also sold on Amazon. I thought it would be better quality but it wasn’t. A real disappointment the metal one was.

These are fun I used them for a physics inquiry lesson. They work best on a smooth low friction surface. The reverse spin is definitely slower than your initial spin, but will spin more with less friction.

Keeps them guessing if they haven't seen rattlebacks before. They seem to defy the laws of physics and still leave some folks puzzled, even after you explain how their shape is what controls their action. Most first guesses think magnets are somehow involved. Nope, they're just cleverly shaped chunks of plastic. I've bought a bag twice and have passed them out to both kids and adults. Something of a fidget toy that operates on it's own (with a spin or a tap).

Fun to show and to give away. The physics are still a bit of a mystery. I like.
