I'm looking for a 1/2" flange to use with schedule 40 pvc but can't find it. will this fit schedule 40 as well?

The diameter of the schedule 80 and schedule 40 PVC pipes is the same, so for this flange, they are interchangeable. Schedule 80 pipe has a thicker wall and is designed for higher pressure. Both will fit nicely into this flange and can be glued using PVC glue.

what is the inside dimension of the 2-1/2 inch slip socket?

The outside diameter of a standard 2-1/2 inch pipe is 2-7/8 (2.875) inches. So, the inside diameter of the slip socket should be about that (or just very slightly more). HTH
