と、言いたくなるぐらい、漫画の域を超えています。 読んでいるうちに、本当に映画を観ているのではないかという錯覚に囚われるぐらい、演出や表現が秀逸。実写版の映画は本作に「比較的」忠実に作っているようですが、やはり原作の足元にも及びません。 原書を買った後、正確な訳が知りたくて日本語版も買いました。

ストーリーについて知ってしまうと、読み進めながら各場面がつながり、謎が解けていく感覚を味わえなくなる恐れがあります。なので、本書のストーリーについて知らないという人は、できるだけ内容についての知識を得ることなく本書を手に取ってほしいです。 内容について詳しく知ってしまうと、面白みを強く損なう本だと思うので、本書の構成や注意点について書いておきます。 30ページ程の漫画を構成単位とする章(Chapter)が12あり、各章の間には登場人物による自伝や論文、手紙、または登場人物に対するインタビュー記事などの資料があります。 現在進行中の登場人物たちの行動と、各人物の過去が入り混じるような形で物語は進み、読み進めてもばらくの間は何が起こっているのかつかみがたいです。また、状況や時代の変化、各人物の性格や人物関係などを会話や各章間の文章から読み取る必要があり、絵だけを追っていってもほとんど内容を理解できません。章の間にある資料も合わせて読んでいかないと人物像や状況設定が分かりません。 読むのに時間はかかるかもしれませんが、十分楽しめる漫画だと思います。
