精密機械の設計製作に従事していたので、さまざまな材料や処理をした部品を扱ってきました。しかし、材料工学のテキストをまともに読んだことはありませんでしたので、定年になって、改めて勉強しなおそうと購入しました。７版との大きな違いは、１９章以降が印刷されていることです。ただし７版の２２章 Material Selection and Design Considerations は省略されています。おそらく、わずか１章では扱いきれないからでしょう。（私はこの本の他、電子材料はHummelを、機械材料はAshbyを入手しました。）とにかく、グラフ、表、写真が豊富で、読むのが楽しいテキストです。
