The right way to teach early literacy.
I have used the book to train adults and teach college classes. I have also used in teaching my own pre-k special education class. It breaks early literacy down into 8 components and has strategies aligned with the International Reading Association. It is easy to read and the chapters are manageable sizes.

Learning to Read and Write
This book was required for a class in Early Literacy for early childhood teachers. It has a brief overview of the basics of teaching young children early literacy skills. For someone with no previous knowledge of this, it would probably be helpful. I think too much space was spent on the position statement which reviews the decisions made about teaching children. However, this book was published by NAEYC, ao I understand why their statement was included. I have seen better, more extensive books with more ready-to-use ideas.
