How big is the spout of this funnel at the narrowest point. I am Hoping it will fit through a desired sized hole.

The narrow portion of the funnel tapers from 1cm opening to 1 inch at the neck. This narrower portion is about 4 3/4 inches long. The reservoir portion is 2.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches across cone.

Is this safe for funneling drinking water?

I don't think anything is "safe" for anything anymore according to all the warnings posted everywhere but I would have no problems drinking beer, um, uh, water from it. Then again I grew up drinking water from a 10 year old garden hose. Just to be clear, I wouldn't mix oil and drinking uses with it.

For those using with ethanol fuel fireplace,how do you keep it from dripping? Afraid of 'trailing'. Do u just use a can or cloth it catch after pour?

Because it pours into the cloth like filter of the fireplace, I have not found the funnel to be messy. I truly would hate to pour it without it or one like it.
