what is the difference between M3 and H3?

Does this work with laptops? How many USB ports does it need to run?

Works great. I've got 5 of these, one of which I've been using since 2010 (an earlier slimmer model though, but still padded like this). All still working perfectly well. It requires only one USB port and works best with USB 3.0 ports. Even thinking of getting a 6th one
