You can definitely place ice in the smaller compartments. However, like any soft coolers, there may be a little bit of leakage once the ice melts and turns to water. Yes, we do offer more of the thin cold packs on our website.

Are the two side zipper pockets insulated as well or just the main compartment? If insulated, big enough for a 12 oz can/16 oz bottle & sml ice pk?

The sides are insulated as well and I put my big 1.75 L water bottle in it so you can definitely fit whatever in the side pockets!

Dimensions of the insides of the side pocket compartments?

Roughly 6x6. It's actually perfect. I thought it would be small, but it worked out great.
