Received five large, ten medium and twenty small bands as per stated contents, unlike some other reviewers. Bands are suitable for my intended purposes: Camping / outdoors and photography (securing light modifiers to shoe-mount flashes, cables and cords). On top of that, EPDM insulates and reduces noise, part of the reason it’s so commonly used in the automotive industry. How long does EPDM last? It depends on the application it’s used in as well as the conditions under which it’s working. I wanted a "ranger band" to seal a zippo lighter. Well not one size in this pack worked for me. But... I found a lot of used for these on other projects and have had fun using them. YES you can make your own. But for the price and convenience this is the way to go. One of the bands works perfect on a Altoids box as a side note. I would look elsewhere if you need a ranger band for a zippo. I ended up buying a tube and making my own. Never the less, this is a great niche product and am glad to have it.
