Hi. i just wondered how everyone's getting on with this diaphragm after using for a while. i'm looking to get one but the fpc are trying to dissuade.

What is fpc? Is that doc? The doctor tried to tell me that it wouldn't work. I personally think it's excellent. I used without any other additional contraception for 8 months before we tried for a baby. I got pregnant the first week we tried so I must be pretty fertile! I think that means it works because we used it for 8 months without getting pregnant! I would only use it at night though because you have to keep it in for several hours after you use it. I found it moved around when I moved around during the day. Started slipping out etc. Also my husband didn't feel it when I used it. I think that as long as you use the gel and know that you're cervix is covered by it then it will work. All the best!

You can, if you are on your period. But without the gels you won’t be covered as a contraception . The Gels kill the sperm, and although it’s suctions to your vagina wall around your cervix sperm are so tiny they can find a way through. Which the gel would then kill. * you can get the gel on prescription from your doctor.

Is this essentially the same thing as a menstrual cup just used as contraception??

Technically, no.

I guess it depends what menstrual cup you use but this is a different shape to the usual mainstream menstrual cups out there and sits much differently inside.

Certainly this is used as a contraceptive device that COULD double as a cup with a light flow, but definitely wouldn't work in reverse. You would also use this with a contraceptive gel

If you're used to inserting and removing a cup you would be fine with this as it's generally easier
