Pinless Moisture Meter for Wall,Floor – Digital Moisture Tester

We had a slow leak in our roof which was causing water spots in the kitchen. This meter has helped us track how bad it was. Easy to run it across the ceiling (wall mode) and see levels as high as 20-- now back down to zero a week after the roof repair. Even in all this rain! I feel super confident that this meter works perfectly. Easy to use. Highly recommend!

Generally works. I'm a first time user of moisture meters. It was easy to set up and use, but my confidence level isn't high because it seems to have a lot of variability. I wish there had been more information on where on the wood to use it and where the best reliability to measure is. For example, I get a different reading on a smooth surface versus a rough surface versus an end cut surface. I think the more I get used to it, the more confidence I'll get. We'll see.

I not sure I would this much for leak detection. Although I think it would work well as such if you're looking for leaks behind drywall. I use it for measuring the relative moisture of cut lumber. The meter is really sensitive, with the readings varying quite a bit depending on how you place the device on the wood. If you set the meter on the wood you get one reading, if you hold it on the wood you get a slightly higher reading. Your fingers/hand affect the readout. I'm not too concerned about the actual value, but as long as you measure the wood the same each time, you can see an accurate difference from one reading to the next. For example, I have some Douglas fir i plan to use for a project. The initial reading was like 27.9. The next week (using the meter in the exact same method) it read 25.7. So I know that the wood is drying. When I get a reading that stays the same for 3 weeks in a row, I know the wood has dried the most it can for it's current environment, whether the meter reads 15.2 or 9.7. Using different modes for softwood and hardwood, etc, you do get different values, so make sure it's on the correct setting. The hold function is very useful when checking lumber at the bottom of the stack and you can't see the screen unless you lie on the ground. It comes in a nice box with a protective cloth cover, handy for keeping dust from the meter when not in use. I would recommend this meter.

This is now my favorite moisture meter ever. Beats the heck out of reading a needle and using a conversion chart for hard or soft wood.

The unit was delivered on time and the packaging is fine. The 9v battery was dead upon arrival and the unit was likely used. The back clearly showed signs of use. That said, with a new battery, the unit worked just fine. The moisture readings provided were within the expected range of the boards. The display was easy to read and the rubber side grips made it easy to use correctly. The unit is fine, but I might seek a different seller to assure it is new and unused.
