Really helped with a longer coated dog

I've got a 100 lb. shepherd mix with a very dense double-coat. I bought the Educator ET 300 mini a couple of years ago with the ultimate aim of achieving safe off-leash freedom for him wherever that is allowed. I tried all the different contact points that came in the kit and found them all to be hit-or-miss in terms of consistent, reliable contact (and therefore, communication). When the contacts worked, the collar was an amazingly effective tool. But since timing is so critical in communicating and training, the inconsistency, the failures to deliver the signal exactly when needed (or far too often, not at all), significantly undermined the process. I wound up using the "tapping"/pager function of the collar because he could at least feel it every time I hit the button. In low distraction situations and inside games like "hide and seek", the pager got 100% responses. However, there were times, outside, with big distractions, when it just wasn't enough to get his attention. For the longest time, the price of this CPAD contact seemed just too high to be worth it. To get the e-stim function to work reliably, I bought the longest contacts available, tried tightening the collar, experimented with different placements on his neck, etc. But no matter what I tried, contact was always inconsistent. When the signal went through, I get a good response. But more often than not, he didn't feel a thing. It was very frustrating. A couple of weeks ago, I finally "bit the bullet" and ordered this contact pad. It's been absolutely amazing. With his collar significantly looser, he is still getting consistent contact, feeling the communication signal clearly with the dial set as low 4 or 5 (out of 100). This pad has finally turned the Educator Mini into the powerful, humane, effective training tool it was always meant to be. It's worth every penny to be back on track to getting him the freedom he deserves!

My chocolate lab, Georgie, has VERY thick fur around his neck; it’s like a lion’s mane. The original nubs didn’t make contact so I searched for alternatives compatible with his Mini Educator. It solved our problem beautifully, and the price is very reasonable.
