My "waist" is probably 41", but that's just getting the pant or shorts above my belly. Problem with that is that now you have a loose fit across your back-side, which leads to wedgies. So if you have a belly, and you measure your waist around your belly-button, go down one size. These are very stretchy and will fit better across your back side if you go down one size. High quality, great material.
