Review: Great sword for collectors, or anime otakus. - I got this sword because i was planning on cosplaying as Himura Kenshin on a few occasions. i'll start off saying this is a great sword for what it is. I am a moderately successful blacksmith in the Japanese arts, and will criticize this sword both cosmetically and functionally. there are a few problems, but none too serious. the worst parts are that the saya (scabbard) is made of a very light wood, and then covered in a urethane plastic that makes it feel very flimsy, as if it was a toy. a pure wooden saya would have been just a good, if not better; and the second disappointment was that the hamon, (temper line on the blade), was not authentic, but rather wire brushed on for aesthetic purposes only. at times, it is acceptable to have a wire brush hamon for decoration, but that is only on already heat treated blades that did not require the clay tempering that creates the pattern of the hamon. however, 1060 carbon steel is not the kind of steel that would require a fake hamon; that is, if it was correctly heat treated, which this seems not to be. it is sharp out of the box, evident by the cleanly cut box I tested the blade on. the blade of course, is a reverse blade, but since it was not heat treated, it is still not extremely effective as a weapon. it is still able to cut through bottles and the such, but not heavy cutting, as it would damage the blade. (the cardboard mentioned before ALONE created some minute scratches on the blade that i was able to polish out.) Now back to the saya. it was made cheaply, and en masse. you can tell, because the saya is not made to fit the sword flush, as it has some slight shaking while moving around. the Sageo is made out of cotton, and is nicely tied when it is taken out of the box. the Habaki, (collar of the blade used to hold the sword in the saya), is made of brass, and the tsuba, (hand guard), is made of what seems to be copper painted black, with brass seppa (spacers for the fittings). The ito (wrap around the handle)is made of black cotton cordage, and is very tight. the kashira (cap at the end of the handle)is made of copper that has been slightly blackened, but is still funtional. the inlay under the ito is real same, (ray skin), with some cheaply made menuki (ornamental/funtional pieces under the ito), and bamboo mekugi (pegs used to hold the tsuka (handle) to the tang of the sword. all in all, i am not at all surprised at the quality, but i still appreciate the novelty of a fairly functional reverse-blade katana that i proudly add to my collection. definitely a buy that is worth the money.
Review: I love this sword - I love this sword. I have seven swords, including this one now and it has easily and quickly become my favorite. The blade work on this is awesome. I'm no expert, but I can tell a decent sword from a crappy one. I was really excited with this and I wish I could carry it around everywhere without getting harassed. It looks better than the pictures. It is really cool and comes very sharp so take extra caution when handling. I've read a lot of reviews where people have sliced their hands drawing and storing the blade because the edge is on the opposite side. It is just as cool as it is dangerous! Definitely worth the steal of a price and haven't had a single thing wrong with it yet. I do not use my katanas for cutting things yet (I do not have the room in my back yard) but it is definitely more than just your average wall hanger.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What kind of steel is it made with? For the blade specifically. I know it is carbon steel but what strength and variation of metal?**
A: It would be hard and very expensive to test the metal, (sending it to a lab for a carbon assessment), but from what the sword is advertised as, and from personal experience, I would say it is untreated 1045 high carbon steel. I say "high" carbon, but 1045 is still a pretty soft steel. This isn't meant as a beater, but it still looks awesome and cuts well.

**Q: how long is the handle**
A: About 11 inches (27.5 cm)

**Q: can i carry it in my check in luggage and trave internationally**
A: The blade itself is sharpened which can be classified as a weapon. I can't give you a definite answer but I have a feeling that you might rouse the attention of customs inspectors once your luggage is opened for inspection. Better check with your preferred airline company for a straight answer and accurate info about customs policy.

**Q: Does the blade go into the hilt?**
A: I don't think its a full tang(blade goes to the bottom of the handle.) I think it just stops at the hilt.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sakabato katana
*by D***N on September 19, 2016*

Let's start out with the pros of this katana 1). full tang 2). The sheath is made of bamboo and has a nice black finish on it 3). The blade was well oiled out of the box 4). The blade is kinda Sharp and is reverse just like in the anime or manga series 5).the guard for the katana is made of brass and is the correct one for the anime or manga series 5). The katana is made by tenryu which is a company owned by Masahiro which makes good quality katanas at a reasonable price the cons 6). No made in China stamped on the blade or on the guard or any wear 1). There was a small scratch on the bottom of the sheath not that big of a deal 2). One of the brass spacers has some wear marks from taking the katana out of the sheath again not a big deal 3).fake mamo again not a big deal 4). The katana come in good shape not perfect shape but not that big of a deal 5). You don't have one yet overall not a bad katana for the money you could spend up to $200-$300 for a reverse blade katana from some other website but this katana is made reasonable well considering the price if you are looking for a reverse blade katana then you should buy this one all the other reverse blade katanas on this website are all made by tenryu or masahiro so why spend more money on the same thing as this
