Gantz Omnibus Volume 1

Great series, seems to be out of print so several volumes are unavailable or extremely expensive. Grab it while you can! Not for children but a great read with unique encounters. Art is engaging and the story while a bit whacky, is self aware and unrelenting.

Got this as a gift for someone who had never read this series. Came well packaged. Might have been a mistake though to buy a volume 1 as a gift. They now have an entire shelf filled with the rest of the series. One of their favorite mangas at least.

The good parts of the story are really entertaining, however there are quite a lot of problematic scenes. If you are able to look past it, Gantz is a strange but fun ride. The book itself is very high quality. It contains the first 3 volumes. All pages in black and white, with very little extras. The artwork is stunning, though many of the characters look the same.

Beautiful edition. Grab it while you can, knowing darkhorse.

One of the most engrossing manga I've ever experienced available in an inexpensive, convenient omnibus. Can't ask for much more.

Even though I have read a few of the Japanese Manga books over the years I am not usually a fan of this type of genre; however, when I saw this huge Manga story book on Amazon (Gantz Omnibus Volume 1 by Hiroya Oku) I decided to purchase it. I found the drawings were great and the story was interesting but very weird. This unusual and strange tale is about a group of people who may or may not have died but are somehow thrown together in uncanny and frightening situations. There is not a whole lot of dialog, but the story moves along quickly as each section of the story is told. I love American graphic novels like Jonah Hex, The Punisher and other action characters, but I found it difficult to grasp the message this particular Japanese Manga story was supposed to relate to the reader. As someone who has been into numerous Japanese martial (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Kenjutsu, Tanto-Jutsu) and cultural arts (Haiku, Tanka and Senryu poetry) I do appreciate different cultural trends, but I admit to not being into the Manga books. If you are into this kind of Japanese Manga stories you may want to check out this kind of story. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art and Warrior Haiku and Senryu)

Great edition to the collection

Compiled volumes 1 through 3. Great artwork with dark sci-fi, thriller, and horror themes. The series shifts a lot between storylines and pacing. Would recommend this if you're getting into this series new, or simply want to support the artist by buying it again like I have lol! Great stuff

Lo compré dos veces, una por accidente xd. Y debo decir que en ambas vino en perfectas condiciones. La historia inicia cruda y es un principio directo, bastante memorable que te darán ganas de releer una vez acabas todos los volumenes. El diseño de personajes es bastante bueno, especialmente el primer grupo y uno de mis personajes predilectos que apareció allí fue: "Blondie". El travesti, o el que parecía mujer xd. Qué buen manga.

The story and drawing are excellent, but I expected Darkhorse to do a better job. Considering the price, I expected the book to feel more "premium" but it just looks like a big brick.

Great story if you're a cynic with gratuitous violence and a side of titillation

What's not to dislike? Brilliantly inventive, can't put it down, great characters and intense scenario, that doesn't require me to add anymore comment !!!
